New Dampening Needed?

Been thinking about "upgrading" the dampening material in my Buggtussels. The are 4 feet tall floorstanders with a tweeter, two 6.5" midranges and two 8" woofers. Inside the cabinets, the dual midranges are fully enclosed in a smaller box that is stuffed with insulation material (I guess that's part of the transmission line design).

The top half of the speaker has no insulation whatsoever. The bottom part of the cabinet has a single thick piece of insulation (the type that is installed in an attic) that is just kind of floating behind the woofers. That's it. The walls apear to be braced fairly well using real wood. BTW, the entire cabinet is real wood, not veneer, so it probably isn't as dense as MDF.

I am considering removing the insulation in the bottom and replacing it with this:

My goal is to achieve a bit better bass response. The speakers go deep enough, I suppose, but there seems to be something missing on the bottom end. I can't really describe it adequately. The Buggs don't sound quite as musical as I think they are capable of.

Not sure what to do about the top part of the speaker. I wonder why the designer decided not to put insulation there. I may leave it alone. I dunno yet.

Any advice, opinions, suggestions?

Thanks.
