Hello all,
Looking to upgrade my 5.1 system to 7.1. Have the RM6800 system right now. I want to move the front satellites to the back and place towers in the front. I'm looking at either the RTi8's or the Monitor 60's. Is there a big difference in the two? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    welcome to the forum...

I'll just say this now, either get the rti8s and upgrade everything else (speakers, sub, reciever, etc) or don't get anything. the 6800 is a decent system but it would not match the m60 or rti8s whatsoever and your reciever would prolly not be able to power them properly. If you don't have the money, wait.

I can't give you a comparison cause to tell you the truth, I have never heard either of them.

I dont know. it might not match, but there is nothing wrong with upgrading in steps. I've done it, slight timbre mismatch be damned.

between the 2 speaks, while the Mon 60 is a pretty good floorstander, go with the RTi8

yes Ive done it also, but if he wants to upgrade the fronts, the center should be upgraded as well. Using the 6800 as surrounds would work fine for a while. What reciever do you use to power your 6800s?

    Thanks for all the replies.
I'm using an Onkyo TX-SR602 to power the system.

I have the 8s I would say get the 8s and don't look back. Or listen to both and buy what you think sounds better.

    ouch, no pre outs...

Whenever you decide to upgrade your whole system (and when you get rti8s/m60s, I guarantee you will want to:) ) get a cheap reciever with pre-outs and buy a seperate amp to power speakers. If you get the rti8s, you have a good start to a great system.

What would you recommend for a cheap reciever with pre-outs and seperate amp to power the speakers. Also would this amp just power the to fronts then the reciever would power the remaiing 3 speaker and sub?

Thanks again all. Just demoed the RTi8s. Wow. The store is reducing them to $520 for the pair (new, not floor models). I'll be picking them up tomorrow. I'll upgrade the rest later on in the year.

What store? Do they carry rti10's or 12's?

The store is Electronics Expo (http://www.electronics-expo.com/). They have 5 stores in New Jersey but you can order anything from the online store. I didn't see the RTi10s or 12s. They had the LSI15s ($1350 ea.) and a couple from the Monitor line. Thats it.
