SO my Uncle and I were talking speakers. He told me he was in the market for the acoustic 300 by bose. Would anyone have any alternative systems that are better. This system costs 1,300 and it is not even a home theatre system.
Everything I own burned in the fire!!!!!!!!!!

Ive never heard of "acoustic 300 by bose", what is it?

Do you ever wonder why Bose has their own separate section in any store?
Go with any Polk Audio setup! You wont go wrong...Audio system lost to water damage... -
It's the Accoustic Wave system. Honestly man have him buy absolutely anything but Bose. I know there are tons of Bose haters out there and I am one of them but there is a very valid reason for it. They are for too expensive for the sound reproduction performance and have extremely poor components and cheap build quality. For that same price he could purchase and a full 5.1 Polk Audio system with receiver that would absolutely wipe the floor with the Bose.// Panasonic AE8000 // Pioneer SC-57 // Polk Audio RTi A9 // Polk Audio CSiA6 //

The list of alternatives is HUGE!!!! I wouldn't know where to start."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,
CAUSE I SPEAK OF THE POMPITIOUS OF LOVE" -
When you buy one of these overpriced systems do they give you any options like how you listen to your musi?. Dsp settings is what I think it is called. Pretty much it is different ways to listen to music and movies, set the sound they way you want for the music you are listening to. Bose is crap, paying 1300 for a 5 disk changer and 2 speakers is ridiculous.Everything I own burned in the fire!!!!!!!!!!

What system from boss would you recommand?
Even if he does goes with Bose speakers, he needs to get a separate receiver. So he has some options.Everything I own burned in the fire!!!!!!!!!! -

However, with all that said and done I am sure I, along with many other on these boards can help you come up with a much better sounding system for the budget. For example:
Polk Audio Monitor 40s:
Link
MSRP: $349.95 per pair
Pioneer VSX-515-K Receiver:
Link
MSRP: $199.00
Polk Audio PSW10 Subwoofer:
Link
MSRP: $239.95
Total MSRP: $780
Now keep in mind this is a fairly entry level system but I can safely say that if set up properly would put the Bose to shame as far as accuracy, volume, and overall sound quality. Also those are all manufacture set retail price and if you shop around you can get a great deal. Plus this would give him the option to upgrade the system if he ever wanted something more whereas with the Bose systems everything is proprietary. I didn't know if he was looking for a 5.1 setup or 2 channel. But hopefully that can kind of point you in the right direction.// Panasonic AE8000 // Pioneer SC-57 // Polk Audio RTi A9 // Polk Audio CSiA6 //

Is he looking for a HT system or music system?
If he wants HT, I would suggest the SVsound SBS-01 5.1 system with the pb10-nsd sub for 1k and a pioneer 1015 reciever for $500....only 200 more bucks than the bose! Would be well worth the extra cash. And if he didn't want to spend more than 1300, then he could just downgrade the reciever to something a little less expensive.

Well I haven't been called a dumbass in awhile so here goes.;)
If a guy wants a Bose system let him buy one. For pete's sake this isn't brain surgery. Gently tell him a couple of times that there are alternatives and if he still wants the Bose wish him well. He will either love it and think he is king sh^t ( which is a good feeling) or better yet will come to you with his hat in his hand and ask you to help him make his crappy system sound like yours. I'm done being a Anti-Bose ****. To quote a wise man " those that don't know, don't know they don't know".

I actually agree -- there's no use fighting someone over it. I just hate when someone asks for your opinion, and then argues with you when they have it like they already made up their mind.

Home Theatre I hope you realize that I am not trying to force anything upon you. As I said earlier, if he does decide to go with Bose I highly recommend getting a complete system because each piece is designed to compliment one another.
*EDIT* Also more directed towards the entire forum community I hope you all realize that my honest intention is to help out a peer and I am in no way trying to argue that Bose is out of the question. I am a newbie here and the last thing I want to do is create waves as I really like a lot of the people here. I am just throwing in my 2 cents for what its worth.// Panasonic AE8000 // Pioneer SC-57 // Polk Audio RTi A9 // Polk Audio CSiA6 //

I'm not here to try and talk anyone out of any system. I think people should and will buy what they want most of the time, reguardless of my opinion. I was only offering an alternative system suggestion to the original poster, since he was asking for some ideas in the same price range.
