go with the rti6s?

I am new here and where I live there is extremely limited choices. I am planning on the rti6s and the Yamaha AX 496 as a 2 channel music only system. Any comments/suggestions?

not familiar with that yammie, is it a 2 channel? a ht reciever?

either way, the RTi6 isnt much of a finicky speaker in terms of what to drive it with. cant see you going too wrong either way.

thats not to say better amplification, like an entry level seperate, wouldnt stop the 6's from rewarding you more, but its not mandatory witht he RTi series.

try it out, just remember, underpowering is worse than overpowering. either way, do not blast the speakers anywhere close to distortion.

    Thanks - Its a 2 channel.

And after following some threads here thinking of the rti4s. Depth is a problem for me and these are only 12" and some posts here say that they actually sound better [although play softer - which is fine for me], than the rti6s.

    What do you think?

that reciever will drive ether of those bookshelves fine.

both the 6 and 4 are good bookshelves, if your not that big on loud volume, both will serve you well. measure the 6 and make sure it wont fit, becuase while the 4 is a good bookshelf, I allways believe in getting the biggest you can get.

Nice looking receiver. Use the "CD direct" feature to keep your sound pure.

i have a ax396 quite happy with it. well verry much so considering i maneged to grab it of a 1day ebay listing that was pickup onley , and it was about 7miles away. i would even be happy with it if i got it at full price. sounds alot more reviling than my marantz avr lets the sound shine more, better stereo placing, imediatley you can tell you have swaped amps over.my marantz avr sounds quite neutaral all the way through(or just lacking shine but i like the sound of it.), havent realy used it that much though but i am pleased with it.

the ax 496 is proberly a a fair bit better than the ax 396
