Here is some good reading about old wangotango........
http://clubpolk.polkaudio.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1036
seems, as I said before, old George may have had a point.
I'd really like to give Scott the benefit of the doubt but at this point, who could?

I guess I had the naive, newbie, "nobody would do that on this board" syndrome. I wish I would have found that before I sent my money.....

REALITY
1. The Monitor 10's ended up costing me $100 cash & carry (I'm smart).
2. The stands cost me $20. (These are fabulous w/monitor 10's).
3. The condition wasn't as exactly as described above.
- Generic 6-1/2" drivers (yes, I had to ask).
- Approximately qty=4 corner scuffs/dents (relatively minor).
- DEFINITELY NOT A 9 out of 10. More like a 6 or 7 (tops).
4. Scott almost refused to part with them (he waffled a few times). Scott refused $80 (reasonably close to a c-note).
5. I could care less really. They are wonderful speakers now that they have been restored with new Polk drivers. Though, they still have some scuffs in the veneer (who really cares - they sound fabulous). I have $320 in them and I think thats just fine with me.
I like Scott. But, yes, you should be careful when dealing with him.
The below photo shows the speakers with the generic drivers - as, they were originally advertised as a 9/10. -
Here are the Monitor 10's after they have been restored with original polk drivers:

what's with Mrs. Scott(dollar down and the chase is on) Trigg?
She seems to be the one pulling the strings there....
I applaud Ron's patience though....if ida showed up to pick up some free speaks and the dude tried to charge me a hundred bones, ****, Ida beat his **** on principle.

On a side note, isn't a large speaker like the Monitor 10, AR303, or some such TOTALLY sexy on those small stands?
-RCheck your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -
That is just plain **** up ****.

Those look like they might rock me, Amadeus. Are those superior to the RT55i?
-
The Monitor 10's are often called the Polk Speaker that looks like
****. Yes, they are sexy.
I about sh#% a brick when Scott had the original Polk stands too.
BIG BONUS.
Likewise, when I purchased my CRS+'s off of Hoosier21 with original Polk stands, about sh#$ a bigger brick.
Back in the 80's, those original Polk stands weren't exactly cheap.
They are much better than anything Sanus offers.
Monitor 10's are much better than RT55i's. These old speakers absolutely ROCK. They are the T!T'$. -
Yeah, but as Aaron told us, the RT55 really shows how far Polk has come..... wink-wink.....

I would have about shat the brick when after 5 hours of driving, Wang (yes, the "o" was omitted on purpose) looks at me and says, "welllll .... you knowwww .... I'm having reservations about this sale, orange, how's about I think about it and get back to you."
-
To be fair to Scott, all the waffling was done prior to me making the 1-hour trip up north to Ft. Wayne. It was still a little frustrating though for him to waffle via e-mail. $100 for the speakers (as is - or, was) was a good deal - regardless.
-
The email waffling is not nearly so bad as the post-drive waffling. Email waffling is no biggie to me, I apologize to Wang.
rskarvan, do those monitors kick the crap out of my 55i's? If they don't, feel free to tell me in great detail, if they do, then please disregard the question.
-
I just got an email from Scott with a UPS tracking number saying that the sub was shipped. I'm finally a happy man (at least will be once I recieve the sub in like new condition as it was advertised)
It seems like Scott is really trying to make good on things. Now lets see if the other two people that he owes money to get their goods. -
Congrats phuz, perhaps your ordeal is nearing it's final stages.
-
Thanks, and thanks to everyone on the board. It seems that pressure from other members, either on the board or via private email, helped out a lot.
Thanks to everyone for listening and helping, I'll quit bitchin and moaning now and get back to being a smartass and edumacating myself on gear. -
The RT55i's are a little cleaner and more detailed at low-to-moderate volumes. The Monitor 10's go deeper and with lots more authority into the bass regions. When cranked with a good amp, the Monitor 10's come alive with a very full sound that the RT series just can't compete with. Monitor 10's are a fabulous party speaker. The RT55i's sound tinny and weak by comparison.
I think the tweeter on the RT55i's is a bit superior to the tweeter on the Monitor 10 series 2 (SL2500).
The RT55i and the Monitor 10 are entirely different types of speakers. They aren't easily compared. Kinda like comparing a Camaro SS to a Volvo. They are much more different than alike.
