Thought I would chime in. I have had a pair of Von Schweikert VR-2's (Cherry Finish) for almost 2 years now in the main music system and continue to enjoy them more and more. (Still enjoying the Polk's in the HT setup I must say.) Great soundstage, good base and outstanding clarity. Even my wife commented on the improvement in the sound (rare instance). I couple of things I have learned that I will pass along.
I used a break in CD when I first got them and it helped quite a bit. But only after continued use did they seem to really break in and open up. Patience is key with the break in of these speakers. I enjoyed them during the process, but one day they just really opened up and have been that way ever since.
They do need some space behind them for the rear tweeter. I have set the volume adjustment to 2.5, but as the beak in process developes I changed to get the ost pleasing sound.
I have on the supplied spikes and it helped with the bass versus without spikes. I have not filled with sand or shot and the bass is still very satisfying; although I am not found of excessive bass.
I a using a Bryston 4B-SST amp and BP-20P pre and the netrual nature of the Bryston equipment really lets the outstanding reproduction qualities of the VR-2's come through.
Just a couple of comments. Hope you like your's as well! -
Thanks for the comments
The demo's I bought have about 200hrs on them already. VS reccomends loud rock music to break them in. They'll get plenty of that from me in the 80 - 90db range but I don't know what VS considers to be "loud" music.
I plan on filling the bases with lead shot.Audio: Polk S15 * Polk S35 * Polk S10 * SVS SB-1000 Pro

What is up with filling the bases with sand and lead shot or cat litter? So you have to buy a speaker and then pour dirt into it? What am I missing?
I hope no one is pouring cement into their LSi's or RTi's.Holydoc (Home Theatre Lover)

Anchors the speaker. Deep Tight bass. People (like doro) have filled their rack with shot to reduce vibrations. I'm no expert so, correct me if I'm wrongAudio: Polk S15 * Polk S35 * Polk S10 * SVS SB-1000 Pro

I guess there are a lot of ways to "tune" these speakers to your room's acoustics. Add lead shot or sand or both. Remove some polyfill, the ambiance doohickey dial on the back and (like any other speaker out there) placement & toe inAudio: Polk S15 * Polk S35 * Polk S10 * SVS SB-1000 Pro
