Is my TV worth repairing?

I have a 36" Sony WEGA tube TV that I accidentally dropped (that **** weighs over 200 lbs!!). When I hooked it back up, There was discoloration in the two top corners of the picture tube. It's not a real big deal, but my intention was to sell the TV for maybe $350 - $400. Of course, I can't sell it for that price with the discoloration issue.
Is the TV worth my attempting to repair (if the cost is around $100 or less)? Or should I throw it away because it is beyond repair? Or should I give it away or sell for a ridiculously low price (i.e., $99)?
Thanks.

IMO it will cost more then 100 bucks just for the bench charge.. i would wait a few days and power it back up and see if its OK for some reason..
if ya try and sell it and say it was dropped, No one will buy it and it may **** soon after.. Id use as is or call it a loss.. It's a shame but will be more grief in the end if sold.
most people who want bigger TV's want them new IMO or want the lastest greatest.. no offense to your tv (it maybe newer, or latest) and it would be a local sale because of size/weightMY HT RIG:

Have it fixed sounds like a disguises problem, I think you dropped it soft but it was upside down. It should be a little price $100 or so, not sure.

have you called a repair shop lately?
I mean of course call around and see what they say.. but if ya sink 100 bucks into something you intend to get 350 out of, TV's are hard to sell ..

It sounds like a somewhat like a convergence issue where you are losing definition up in the corners. That can be fairly pricey to repair plus anywhere you take the set as faster100 has said will cost a pretty penny just to diagnose. My advice would be to find a place that has free esimates, if there is one in your area, then see what they have to say. Once that is all said and done and if you do manage to repair the set you would have to let the buyer know that it had been dropped and repaired not to mention you would have to find a potential buyer in the area since the shipping would be astronomical.// Panasonic AE8000 // Pioneer SC-57 // Polk Audio RTi A9 // Polk Audio CSiA6 //

No I haven't but worked for some TV shops... I would be looking for like no work dance around set with a round ring plugged into wall outlet for 2 Min's tops. What a shop change and $10 bucks?

We haven't heard back from Early B. and I haven't seen the set myself but I say that would fix it.

Thanks for your input.
Yeah, I figured my options were limited. Even if I could repair the TV at a nominal cost, it would be a major hassle to take it to the shop and bring it back. Did I mention the damn thing weighs over 200 lbs?! Looks like I may have to set the TV on the curb for the trashman to pick it up. It's a shame 'cause it's a great TV and looks virtually new (3 years old). Oh well -- **** happens and it's called, "life."HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

I'd have to be fairly certain that this device would work before I purchased it. My concern is that since the TV was dropped, it could have sustained permanent damage to the tube. If so, this device wouldn't fix it. The only way I know to determine the extent of the damage is to take the TV to a repair shop, which brings us back to the original question of whether or not it's worth doing that.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

Early,
I don't think you can F up a tube other then busting it, I could be wrong I see lots of cheap chap now a days. A neck of a tube is the weakest this is why it's best to transport a TV one on it's face. With Avia test DVD I think there's some test patterns RED / GREEN / BLUE, with these patterns I think you could see the problem the BLUE my work but the RED will show discoloring around the corners. You looking for solid colors on all color screens. I would for $62 bucks would give it a shot.
Could you post a picture of the set working so I could see the problem for myself. Also if you fell like the TV did are you walking would you break something your self? Just placing a TV upside down could have the problem you have now, so I think it's OK to fix.

Big Sony CRT's are notorious for this problem, and it can occur with a gentle move, let alone some kind of drop. You need the magnets around the front of the CRT readjusted, or some new ones added. Shouldn't be a serious repair, I have had them out twice to do it with my 34" Sony Wega widescreen, although the extended warranty covers this repair for me.DKG999

A bit off topic, but do speakers need to be shielded if they are close to LCD TV's?HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

I got a dumb question. Is the TV in a different location now? This isn't a magnetic issue is it?

Have you considered calling an in home service company? Even if neck magnetics and or yoke moved I don't think it should be too expensive, and if you're not sure ask for a price to fix first as they may credit the cost back if repaired.
