Any of our friends to the north have any opinions on which is the best choice for shipping from U.S. to Canada? Any pros and cons of either?
thanks ;)

I sent something to someone in canada once via FedEx and got a bill 8 months later for the tarriff's on the item I'd shipped. Basically, they wanted me to pay the $50ish because they failed to collect it from the person taking delivery of the item. I told them to get bent and eventually, they did.

    USPS

MAKE SURE you list the "value" as $100 or less. If it's over $100, the person receiving the package will be charged tax and tariffs. UPS don't seem to care about this. They'll tax you even on lower priced items. This is not pretty with UPS. I once purchased a Rotel pre from Russ. He listed the value as $120. The UPS **** asked for $83 c.o.d.

USPS have NEVER asked for money at the door when the value is written as $100 or less.

USPS and NOTHING else. Perfect track record for undamaged goods on my part as UPS & FedEx damage things all the time. Dollar value is huge, especially for me in my location. USPS provides everything.
    - low cost
    - tracking #
    - safe shipping

    End of story!

Another vote for usps. Once when I had an item shipped from accross the border I made the mistake of using ups. The item was about $120 and he handed me a bill for $90 just in duties and all that crap. He even told me that I should use usps instead of them so I can avoid it next time.

I just mark "GIFT" because if its for a friend.. It doesnt concern them if they paid or not and they shouldnt be charged.

Even when marked as gift, you'll still get taxed if value is over $100. The lady at my post office told me the secret to easy shipping:).

The problem with declaring something as a gift or valued under $100.00 is that if you're buying a $2000.00 amp and it gets damaged or lost, YOU are screwed!
