Didn't they just come out with XP two years ago? What else are they planning on doing to the OS? All about money if you ask me.

XP is the first SOLID operating system in their last few, IMO. ME sucked, 2000 for Servers was ok, but XP seems very solid. Oh well. What do I know?

I'm running it now (MSDN). Best feature: Add a high speed USB storage device. A window pops asking if you want to use it as storage or RAM :-). Instantly expand your RAM to 5 gigs with a thumb drive.

Has to be high speed USB 2 though - you dont get the option with USB 1.1.

That's interesting. Is USB2.0 actually fast enough to effectively act as an extension of your RAM?

Not as fast as onboard, but having alot of USB ram is faster than having a lesser amount of onboard RAM (keeps your system from paging to the HDD).

Oh, Vista also allows you to connect to a network projector. I presume this means you can send /wmv content via TCP/IP to a network aware projector. No clue about max resolution though.

WARNING-This is a BETA TEST version.Which means when the trial is over, you will likely have to BUY the real thing.Microsoft is not into giving anything away.Even to guinea pigs who do all of their test work for them.I am running Windows XP Professional x64(the 64 bit version)I started off using the trial version.Right before it was over the download manager stopped working and i couldn't download any new programs.I contacted Microsoft by e-mail to ask them where and how to get the regular version if it was available. This was last year.I have yet to hear back from them.I went and found it myself and had to purchase it.

    My computer:
    I built it myself
    Intel Pentium D 830 dual core 64 bit processor 3.0 GHZ 800Mhz FSB 2 MB L2 cache(1MB per core)
Intel D945 GNT motherboard with 945G express chipset
3 gigabytes of Kingston DDR2 ram at 533 Mhz
250 gig Western Digital SATA hard drive
Motorola Surfboard 5120 Cable modem(Purchased NOT rented)
    U.S.Robotics 5610B Dialup modem(with 64 bit drivers)
    Canon Pixma IP1500 printer(with 64 bit drivers)
Creative Sound Blaster LIVE! 24 bit 7.1 channel sound card(with 64 bit drivers)
Creative Webcam LIVE!(with 64 bit drivers)

My gaming machine has an antec case with 5x 120mm case fans. Talk about keeping it cool. But it needs it, those overclocked AMD X2's will get hot when you're cooling it with just air.

My server computer is an old 700mhz athlon with 512mbs of ram. A bit slow, but it does the job.
Lovin that music year after year.

RULE for beta testers. Use an extra pc for doing this, anything important keep on your regular pc. Beta's are notorious for inflicting pain on those who fail to heed this warning.

The reason i want to do watercooled is so i dont have so many fans. I want i nice quiet system. My current system had 6 fans whitch is quiet by most standards. I also plan on doing alot of other mods which i havent figured out yet

    discussion from Ziff-Davis.
    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1974261,00.asp

It is "nice" how Microsoft "allows" us to get in on the ground floor of an OS development so that we can have "input" on its development.

Guess we're cheaper than a villager in lower Bakilakistan, India.

Thats pretty cool about the RAM extension via USB. I'll upgrade, but probably not for a few years from now. I hate how 'spensive new computers are. Even to build.
