I got my polkdb212-2 and amp

Man polk really knew what they were doing on this things. It is sooooo loud. It has only been in for a few hours and it sounds good. However, if you turn the volume up high, then the subs sounds different and sorta bad, but I think its because it hasn't had time to properly break in. Also, do buy tsunami silencer sound dampener. It may work for crappy subs, but when you add a little power I think it would take three layers or so to stop the rattle.

Does anyone else know of great sound deaden material at a cheap price that I can get? I don't really want to spend $150 for dinamat, unless I absolutely have to. Also, I would like to buy a little more so I don't have funny stares because of the rattle from the other strange places in my car!

Props to Polk on the db212-2! It is totally worth every cent.

You may want to back down on the gains or get a stronger amp. Another thing that may help would be the use of a subsonic filter, these come in handy for ported boxes.

I am using the Kenwood KAC-9102D which does 850 @ 2 ohms. I have the gain set at 1.0, whatever that means. thats where it was set when I got it, and that's a little below where the crutchfield guy told me to set it. bass boost is set to 12, which is almost half way up on the dial. Also, the amp has a subsonic filter built in and I have it set to only let the lower frequencies go to the sub and leave the rest for the db speakers.

The subs sound a lot better now. They just needed time to break in. it sounds louder when I have my windows or sunroof open. finally my db675 coaxials got in from warranty replacement, and I hooked them up to a amp I had laying around. Now I can hear my music and not just bass!!!

The second skin stuff sounds like a winner. Will just buying the damplifier kill the vibrations?

You never really want to set you bass boost up that high. For every 3db's of boost you are asking your amp to double it's power within that frequency range that is being boosted. Meaning that your amp will reach maximum clean power relatively quickly, and then distort after that.

Try resetting your gains without the boost.

Bass boost is not necessarily a good thing in large quantities. Really, if you need more than 6 db then something else is wrong. What it does is create a hump in the amps frequency response. Say the amps boost is at 40 Hz and you have it low passed at 80 then the sub will be playing everything from 20-80 Hz but with a big fat hump at 40 Hz. To the laymen, theyll never notice it. Itll just sound like more bass. But to the audiophile, theyll notice how exagerated the bass response is. If youre just wanting "more bass" then turn it up! If youre wanting more realistic and accurate bass, back it off.

What youre talking about is a low pass filter. They do exactly what they say they do. They let everything below that setting pass. A subsonic filter filters out the frequencies that (A) your sub wont be able to reproduce properly and (B) you wont be able to hear anyway. This is usually in the 15 Hz range. It saves your amp some power.

Thats because there is less cancellation. Instead of bass waves bouncing around your car and cancelling each other out, they escape thru the sunroof.

Don't do it, man.

xPlode @ 1200 watts = no headroom, max distortion, thermal shutdown, serious clipping etc. Sony's ratings are...optimistic.

Plenty of better budget choices out there.

I say the Sony will be fine. If that is a 1200 RMS rating then it will be plenty.

There is a guy in MECA that has a Sony show car. He competes in SQ and SPL and does very well with it. Sony aint that bad.

But I agree that there are better budget choices out there.
