Iron Maiden, "Number of the Beast" should be the theme song for today!

Hilarious news reports of pregnant women trying to have labor induced yesterday or pumped with drugs to delay until tomorrow for fear of having a child born on 6-6-06. LMAO, stupid effing people!
    No excuses!

Some of the newer metal isn't too bad either. Some like:

-Machine Head (if they are even considered new at this point)
-Fear Factory (even older than MH, might be considered Industrial as well)
    -Lamb of God
    -Shadows Fall
    -Demon Hunter

I'm old school and have to go with the masters.

    Black Sabbath

When they came on the scene there was no one like them that played that heavy type riff. Add Ozzy's vocals to the mix and the lyrical subject matter and Heavy Metal from Hell was born.

Honorable mention has to go to Metallica, for kick starting the whole metal revolution again. Getting rid of those poser hair bands. Kill 'em All and Ride the Lightning brought it all back again.

Can't say I'm into the current metal scene at all. But I do throw some of the classics in once in awhile.

    Maiden
    Priest
    AC/DC
    Scorpions

This is a fun thread! My favorites are the usual...Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Slayer, King Diamond, Metallica, Megadeth, IRON MAIDEN!! I also really dug some "God Rock" bands such as Barren Cross and Messiah Prophet. I later got into Iced Earth, Armored Saint, Crimson Glory and GWAR !!

Hahah, Gwar. I've always wanted to listen to them but have never really taken the effort.

Every time I think of them I remember that scene from Empire Records. Classic.

    Black Sabbath.

    'enuff said.

Things DID head south towards the end ("Sabotage", et al).

But their "Master of Reality" album ?
If you say you're into metal, but have a "Oh, it's okay !" attitude towards that album, I'm afraid you're out of the Metal Korps.

I was (and am) a huge fan of the 80's metal..I remember Twisted Sister being huge my freshman year in high school..

Skid Row is one of my favs...saw them a month or so again....too bad they dont still have Bach (but after seeing him on Supergroup, I understand why they dumped him).

I was also a big Guns n Roses fan. They would fill every arena in the country right now if they announced a tour with all the original members, sans Steven Adler...

as far as a lesser known 80's metal band...Shotgun Messiah..awesome

Appetite for Destruction is absolutely timeless

That album could have been released ten years earlier or twenty years later...

ZB2K - Appetite for Destruction should be in constant rotation in a changer. Word is (have heard this now for 10 years) that Chinese Democracy will be coming out this year ;)

Slayer (I had tickets to see them yesterday in San Diego, but the show was cancelled and rescheduled for July):(

Testament - They kick arse live, one of the best live metal shows I have seen.

    Morbid Angel
Canibal Corpse and Six Feet Under
King Diamond (especially Them and Abigail)
WASP - Crimson Idol I and Neon God I and II
Fastway - Trick or Treat Soundtrack HEFT is a killer track.
    Exodus
    Sodum
Ministry (Post E.D is Halloween) WTF?

If there is any souther cali metal heads, check out moshking.com and get your metal on. You can catch metal shows at the Showcase Theatre in Corona every weekend.

    Scott

I was (and still am) a huge Ministry fan.... IMO Psalm 69 ushered in the new era just as much as "....Teen Spirit"

I'm planning on seeing them in Cincy in the coming months, and I've heard that their live shows are BY FAR the loudest events known to man. I cannot wait to be crawling hands and knees over broken beer bottles to reclaim the battered, shattered, bloody remains of my eardrums off the liquor soaked floor of Bogart's.

I was a bigtime headbanger back in the day! I had the hair halfway down my back and I was a drummer in quite a few speed metal bands.

The bands that influenced me the most in the begining were Slayer, Metallica and Anthrax. Dave Lombardo especially was the one drummer I modeled my style after the most. In the 90's when I got into prog and Dream Theater I began playing like Mike Portnoy so my style morphed into a cross between a technical progressive player and a hellfire and brimstone speed metal style.

Other bands I liked were Sepultura's first couple albums, Wrathchild America was just awesome! Metal Church was also very high up on the worship list. Vio-Lence and Kreator were also good for some rage!

Reminds of a live bootleg I have of Dream Theater doing Iron Maiden. 1) Invaders 2) Children of the Damned 3) The Prisioner 4) 22 Acacia Avenue 5) Number of the Beast 6) Run to the Hills 7) Gangland 8) Hallowed be thy Name.

A true Prog-metal(ish) performance. They sound damn good. I believe DT also did a live Metallica bootleg. Personally I thought the Metallica music lacked a bit.
