Music Machine for sale

This is a Soundcraftsmen DDR-1200 MOSFET amplifier with 275 wpc into 8 ohms. It is stable to 2 ohms and will drive anything. This amplifier was made in the days when cost of manufacturing didn't matter so much. Quality was the issue of the day and if a 50 pound transformer was better then 50 pounds it was... The original MSRP was around $1600.
I called this a "Music Machine" because it really surpasses the other amplifiers I've had. It has almost as much finesse as my Jolida tube amps, more power than my Manley mono blocks and way more tone than any other solid state amplifier I have ever had. As I sit and listen to it I am just amazed at the soundstage, lack of typical SS noise and to use the same old word again, tone.
If you are just looking for power I suggest getting a Carver or something similar but if you are looking for true high fidelity that you can actually afford, this is the ticket. This unit would be best in a 2 channel setup with tube preamp, a decent source, pretty much any set of speakers and most of all, a person who will appreciate true audiophile sound.
I'm pretty firm on this items price as they typically go for at least that much in poor condition. The weight is easily at least 60 pounds so take that into consideration pertaining to shipping cost. I will take the time to package appropriately.
Sold!
Thanks for looking!

Edit: There are a few marks here and there around the case but the front is excellent. The big handles have some small marks but are not conspicuous. It presents itself well and will look at home with other expensive equipment.

Would this be an upgrade or a lateral from my HCA-2200 (original version)?

WOW! Someone should jump on this! Anyone looking for a separate 2 channel amp to complement their receiver for driving front speakers (like SDA-2's or the like) should be all over this. Soundcraftsman amps are solid, quality amps. I had one of their "shoe box" amps, great sound!
Does this one have a fan?Carl -
If I hadn't scored another Bose 1801 I may have jumped on this....that is a sweet looking amp.Amplifiers: 1-SAE Mark IV, 4-SAE 2400, 1-SAE 2500, 2-SAE 2600, 1-Buttkicker BKA 1000N w/2-tactile transducers. Isig,
I'm guessing a lateral move in power, not sure in sonics.
ND13,
My guess would be around 425 or so into 4 ohms but I don't have knowledge of the exact rating, thats why I didn't list it.

Soundcraftsmen's have a warm side of neutral sound to them and tons of reserve power. If your system is over-analytical or has alot digital glare, this is just the cure....Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

I prefer to think of the sound as "on the tube side of neutral"

This add from the Soundcraftsmen Reference Site says 375 WPC @ 4 Ohms but it is an add and not a spec sheet. The MTX archive link doesn't work so no help there.

Yeah, I was more worried about sonics than power since I'm pretty squared away in that department.

No really, this time I'll leave it up to the purchaser to share that information if he wishes. I will say I read over his previous posts beforehand and he is a very well liked and helpful individual. A top notch member.
I never really thought about it before but I think in the future I will mention a PM has been sent or whatever. That way everyone will stay better informed of the progress.

Chuck - thanks for the kind words.
I PM'd Chuck about this Soundcraftsmen sometime this morning. The reason I PM'd was that I was inquiring about a "payment program" and did not want to do so publicly. Chuck and I came to other arrangements and an agreement to purchase was made. I did make it clear that I would understand if Chuck deemed it more appropriate to sell to HBomb because of his (Henry's) public interest.
I apologize if I have ruffled any feathers. I wasn't trying to do anything untoward.
While I am at it - I recently purchased a B&K ST2140 (should be here tomorrow!) from Doro via e-mails. The reason for this "non public" purchase was that my ID would not allow me to post on the forum. Mark was kind enough to work the transaction through e-mail instead. Thanks to Kris Siegel (Web Intern) for helping me get my ID straightened out.
So there you have it....
Cheers!
