seems like "they" always got ya by the short hairs.
Just upgraded to digital service on cable--$65
    internet ...$40
    Land line telephone....$40
no cell or XM type radio...................
I was condidering switching to the Dish TV to try to same a few buck because of the $29.99 hook, but after adding all the services channells and HD programming to get me the package I wanted its the same as cable then goes up in 12 months. It would be nice if you could pick the channel you wanted instead of getting 150 channels to watch the 8-10 channels that you want................oh well, I could always listen to music and read I guess.
    Sharp Aqous 40" LCD
    Onkyo TX SR-507 AVR
    Onkyo DX-C390 CD Changer
    POLK RTI8 Mains--Cherry
    the rest...in process...slowly!!

    $0 ---- cable (I buy cheap DVD's)
    $0 ---- telephone
$7.50 --cell phone (tracfone, yearly card for $99 but on sale)
$0 ---- internet (Have it at work)
$0 ---- xm radio (got rid of it a month after my first post)

$7.50 per month, $90 per year.

I actually did a lot of things back then. Quit smoking and drinking too. That alone has saved me $20K.

So over the past 7 years I really saved $36K or $5100 a year.

Man, when you add up this stuff, it adds up! :D
Now since you buy DVDs instead of cable rental service, what would you say your monthly cost of DVDs is?

Throuhg those 7 years, did you actually feel the impact of the above savings or was all the monies diverted elsewhere?

    For us in CAD :

Cell: BB voice and data plan (500mbs) vm,cd..I pay 65$ wife's BB, paid for by her work.
    Landline: 27$
INternet: cable internet, 50$ month (soon to be reduced by 13$ as we are decreasing our total gigs per month)
Cable: 75$ including rental of HDPVR (is where I'd like to save more but can't find a way)

Total is around 230$ mth give or take over 7 yrs it's almost 20K

I'd love save some $$ but can't figure out a way with these bills
---Landline telephone is my major cost due to long distance charges as both my sons and sisters are living on the South Shore of Montreal. My cost is probably averaging 75$ a month. I am trying to cut this bill down by using 1010 long distance service. Hopefully I should bring the land line + long distance cost to about 45$ a months.

---I don't have any cell phone cost since the cell phone is provided to me by the company and relatives will call me only for emergencies or bief calls.

---My internet is combined with my cable (basic) and my cost is around 40$ month. I will more likely cancell the internet portion soon since I do most of my internet sufing at work (often stay after hours until around 22:00)

---- Never cared for XM radio so this is a 0$ for me.

So, my present cost is roughly 115$ monthly and hopefully I might be able to drop a few $$ (maybe 30 35$ a month) but not much since I am already licking the bottom of the services costs.

    Right, I forgot this
Just upgraded to digital service on cable--$65
I guess once we are forced out of the analogue service I guess their will be premium to be paid for digital!??!

    Cheers!

Twice I picked up boxes of laserdisks for $130 each so there is 260. Initially I bought about 50 $3 DVD's from walmar so there is $150. Beyond that I typically buy one or two cheap DVD's a month, sometimes not.

If I calculated for the 7 years it would be around $700 or maybe $8 or $9 a month.

The impact was in the checking account. I would end up with an extra $1k or $2k sitting there with no earmarks and typically bought a piece of audio or video gear when that happened. Or, I would buy something extra and have no problem paying it off quickly the next month. It was a dynamic savings if that makes any sense. Of course one could argue that if you have it sitting there it just goes away towards bills but that only happens if you aren't budgeting and tracking correctly. I know a lot of people who can't tell you where any of their money goes. Also, some people just get lazy when they have extra money and it goes out the door when something needs done.
