My father wants to set-up surround in his house. He likes the idea, but has no room or placement for rear speakers. He told me that all he wanted was 3.1. Are there any 3.1 receiver that are made, or would it be better to just get a 5.1 and not hook up two speakers. Thanks for the help guys. Polkheads are all knowing...

    Yes.

Better yet, just get a Stereo receiver and buy 2 better speakers, instead of 3 mediocre ones.

EVEN better yet, check out the SurroundBar and one of Polk's subwoofers, the PSW12 perhaps.

    Cheers,

I second Russ's recommendation for the Surroundbar.

Most 5.1 avr's will down mix the DD to the 3.1 in there set-up menu.
Not a big fan of surround bars.Especially if music will be played on the same system.I would say stick with the 3.1 get a good sub.Make sure the avr can do the down mix.
