Speaker install

I'm trying to intall some db650's in the rear door of my '02 Maxima. The stock speakers are 6.5" but use some mounting bracket. The polks don't fit in the stock location and actually seem too small. It looks like I could fit 6.75" speakers there. Here are my questions...
1) How do I install the new speakers? Do I have to make my own mounting bracket?
2) Why would Nissan use 6.5" speakers in an area that is too big for that size unless you use a giant bracket to mount it? Why not just use a larger size speaker?
Thanks.

I have a 96 and mine uses the 6.75" all around. I am not sure about yours though. I know what you are saying about the bracket and opening, same thing with my front speakers. I am actually going to make some MDF mounting rings for them, much better than the OEM plastic mounts. You could also do the same for yours.
I sometimes hang out at Maxima.org, and they also have an audio section there. Link to Maxima.org's audio section.
