I recently purchased a Sunfire Signature 12" subwoofer for my hometheater system (Klipsch Reference 7 series) and a friend recommended trying it with my 1.2TLs. I thought he was crazy...but it was amazing how sweet the match was. Now I'm having trouble breaking up the set up for my home theater. Anyone else play with subwoofer augmentation with the big boys?

I'm running an SVS with my SRS's. I literally need the sub as I had a nasty 10db dip in the mid-upper bass regions. The SVS smoothed that right up.

I have an original pair of SDA-SRS's and I use my PSW505 for HT only. The sound is just fine for two channel music, just the way they are!

tried a psw1200 with my srs`2 and 1.2tl.took it out after a couple listens,2 channel forever.I thought it was fairly amusing also. The Polk Ogre doesn't always get 'it'

Hi,
Think the key is whether or not you intend to use your 1.2TL's in a home theater setup, and if so, whether you are an action movie fan.
The entire line of SDA's put out ample bass for most music applications without subwoofers. If your big into organ music maybe that might be an exception.
However, for today's recent action movies I don't think the SDA's can go low enough to reproduce some of the deep bass content, without one or more subwoofers. An exception might be the SRT's that come with subwoofers.
My guess is that even the largest SDA's don't have a lower -3 dB limit that goes below 30 Hz.
EDIT: I see from a previous posting by Jesse that the 1.2TL's start to roll off at 27 Hz.
Like honestaquarian I'm running SDA-1C's in my home theater. They go down to about 35 Hz. I'm using a Velodyne subwoofer on my LFE channel that goes down to 15 Hz and tactile transducers that go down to 5 Hz. I also have a 10" Sunfire subwoofer on my right surround channel and a 10" Carver subwoofer on my left surround channel.

Hi Carlon,
Thanks. I also have a set of SDA-CRS+'s that I'm using for my center channel. I've upgraded to the silk dome replacements on both sets of speakers.
I agree, there was an inprovement. I can now listen at levels more than 10 dB higher without fatigue or harshness.

I use a Velodyne active servo 18" sub crossed at 40Hz, and it makes a huge difference. I'm finally happy with my system.

Larry,
I love your home theater set-up...I wished I seen it before buying the Klipsch R-7 series...I would've stayed with polks. I have a collection of SDA-CRSs (86 models), SDA 2Bs, SDA 1Cs, and 1.2TLs...I might have two theaters...one upstairs and one down...sometimes you feel like a nut...sometimes you don't. -

Hi,
Thanks for the compliment.
Yes, if I had your inventory I definately would have used the big guys as my mains. Maybe I would have built columns around the 1C's and used them as side surrounds.
Two theaters...It sounds like you are single, or working on becoming single again.
Good luck.

Larry,
No man...my wife and I are both Active Duty Air Force and homebodies...we just recently built our retirement home in the country and prefer to entertain ourselves....she was the one who wanted surround sound and a large Plasma over the fireplace for those cold winter nights. I guess she appreciated the custom home I built her myself...it took me three years...now I can bear the fruits. I had to build my theater big enoug to put my two drum sets in it...God I look forward to retiring next year and returning to the holy land. -

Hi,
Yes, I know where you're coming from. We retired a few years ago, moved down to Florida, had our dream home built, and I built my home theater. My wife has been very supportive with the theater, but somehow I think that she'd draw the line at drum sets. Your wife sounds like a rare catch.

Larry,
What did you do with the hookup on your CRS center channels? Did you convert them to utilize both drivers or did you just hook them up without the interface cable? A friend who is also deep into stereo and home theater encouraged me to go with the SDA home theater a couple of weeks after my Klipsch R-7s were delivered...I wish I had seen your set up first...I would've saved enough money to have bought my 7-1 receiver...are you near Orlando???? I'd love to hear your system. -

Hi,
You sort of have me at a disadvantage. You know me by name and all I have is something that looks like a zip code.;)
No, I haven't made any alterations to the driver connections, I just disconnected the interface cable.
I'm in Sarasota which is a two-hour drive from Orlando. I'd certainly love to meet you and your wife to talk home theater. Feel free to contact me directly at lfchanin@verizon.net if you're interested.
