Picked up today, it has DTS and DD. Picture quality is so so (it was obvious that it came out from an analog media), SQ is good to better. But, it is worthy of owning, considering it is one of the classic.

I first saw Platoon alone as a sneak preview at one of the last large screens, the Paris Movie Theater, in Boston. I remember getting in a long line and waiting for it to start moving. I noticed some bearded men at the front entrance with clip boards talking. I was very suspicious and almost left because I didn’t want to part of any survey. The line suddenly started to move however and I paid and watched the movie without talking to the breaded men with clip boards.

At the end of the movie as the actor credits started to role the faces of each of the men in the platoon faded in and out. I realized they had all died in the movie. I suddenly felt very sad and started to cry. Yes, I had lost two friends in that war, but had never cried about it. I couldn’t stop balling and was embarrassed. Nobody left the theater during the credits. The film finally ended, the lights came up and people started to leave. I decided to wait a bit to let the people leave and stop crying. I was slightly annoyed that many men were still sitting in my row and in front of me. I finally stood up and turned to leave and looked behind me to see many men still sitting and all balling.

I now knew that the people with the clip boards were there to help.

I told my wife about this experience and that we had to see this movie. However, we waited about a month later to see it. We also read many reviews and saw many clips about Platoon on TV during that month. We finally went and saw the movie together and at the start of the end credits every one got up and left.

No one was crying.

I never read reviews or watch previews on TV anymore.

I just have the Dolby digital version it is very dissapointing. Almost everything comes out of the center. But what do you expect from a 20 year old movie. the movie itself though is pretty good. they went a little far with the two captains but hey, its only a movie.

how is that possible? the re-release version has both DD and DTS.

Scary part about this movie, it draws a parallel of what has happened lately.

Different time, different war, hopefully, different outcome..
