I hope I made a decent choice here?

RT1000i brand new cherry single speaker

I was thinking the RT1000i would make a good center channel speaker with solid depth and muscle. Am I not too far off with my assumption? I can pick it up for free and it is brand new...$86 was my winning bid. I never thought it would go so low, but now I own it

It will replace a CS400i which I now can put on the market and have $125+ leftover after paying for the RT. Hope I made a good choice...

A 40 inch tall center speaker? You currently use 2 400i centers? I guess I don't understand your setup goals. The 1000i is about half the speaker the 400 is BTW.

Did you think the 1000i was a CS1000P?

It was a great deal for a new speaker for parts or try and find a match,.. However i never understood why people want to use towers as center speakers.. I think the 400i's you have are a way better choice.. and i wouldn't sell them.. are you going to lay the 1000i on its side? and 2 400's are more speaker then 1 rt1000i

Well, you both certainly gave the whole idea some thought. I wasn't really going to put it on its side. I was going to put it right in the middle between the mains. I have a picture on a screen that is high enough to fit the 1000i under and in the middle.

Faster100...you are probably right...I should just hang on to it and check stores and used markets for a matching 1000i and then go from there.

In the meantime, as a fix on my weirdness, I guess I could use the 400i's as L/R mains. I can tone the bass down on the 1000i and match it to the output of the 400i's.

I appreciate both your thoughts. Sitting here before my computer screen - in a new situation with no wife to give me grief over my big black boxes all over the house - ....well, it's hard not to want to buy every cool deal on Polks and use them somehow. You should know, this isn't even close to the craziest Polk purchase lately. I have picked up like 7-8 odd polks lately trying to put them to use all over the house. I just put two small Monitor 4s as computer speakers with a 30 yr old HK integrated I found on a flea market locally for $5 and the speaks were also $5. I didn't need them, but I just couldn't leave them...so I had to take them home.

Am I ill??? If so, is there a cure? If there isn't, then don't bother me hahaha... I can't wait till a single 3000p is listed somewhere....maybe I can use it as a center :D:D

you have a hobby that spends tons of money for ear pleasure.

The RT1000 will make a fantastic center channel if....
you timbre match it with a left and right pair and can set the center speaker to Large. the center is the hardest working speaker in a surround speaker setup. Invest in a Rat Shack SPL meter and ensure your front 3 speaker levels match and you should hear a huge increase in clairity and separation from the center.
Your only problem is once you've used the 1000 as a center, you'll want matching speakers to increase the detail. Good luck and do yourself a favor and buy your 'better half' something special.
