Due to trying to keep things a bit on the DL for now, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be looking for a new job soon. Things at work with the merger have developed into more or less a slap in the face. I'll keep y'all posted as things pass and finalize, but my stress levels are about to SEVERELY drop when I rid myself of the toxic environment I've been in (my own fault for staying, I know).........

'What' I've done is probably no big deal.......it's the 'Who' that ya'll might want to stay away from.......;)

Thank you guys for the kind words and suggestions on things. The closure of the merger is completing tomorrow (our company was split into 3 parts, 2 of which are 'position eligible' blah blah blah). If we pass with company number 1, we automatically default to an employee of company #2 for a period of time until they either find us a permanent position or give us our severance.

Company number 1 offered me $7k less per year, and with them offering a company car I'd lose the mileage money (another $7-8k per year). My car is paid off and I have minimal maintenance/running costs involved (only reason I'm liking the Honda these days), so the aspect of a company car ("not to be used for personal use" doesn't mean squat to me. With that much of a drop in pay, I've communicated to company number 1's VP of HR that I have a hard time accepting that my reward for working hard over the past 11 years with this company is a huge drop in pay. Bitter taste in my mouth for a company that I haven't even started with is a bad idea to attempt IMO.

rule #1. Never quit your job unless you have one to take its place. Take the cut in pay, keep the job, look for a new one from the comfort of your new job. There's no better way to look for a job when you're employed. No stress, better negotiating postion etc. Plus the job market is actually pretty good at the moment.

I can't agree wallstreet.......working in a toxic environment is not the way to stay employed......if I end up jobless for a little while, that'll give me time to clear my head........I shouldn't have stayed as long as I have, and for that, I owe myself a few kicks in the ****, but I'm better off moving on than staying.

Walter does have a point... It's always easier to find a job, if you have a job. Start now and, if all goes well, you could walk away to a better situation with the severance pay in your back pocket.

That said, do what you have to do, brett... In any case I'll be sending good thoughts your way.
    More later,
