Bah - the "achilles heel of LCD"? Hardly! That would be the poor black levels. The viewing angle rolloff isn't even an issue I consider anymore (I don't watch DVDs in a car ). They've already improved viewing angles so much over the last 6 years.Tannoy Dimension TD10, SOTA Star Sapphire, Heathkit W4A's, McIntosh MC2100, Eddie-Current Zana Deux, Singlepower SDS, Sennheiser HD650, Audio-Technica L3000, Sony Qualia 010

SED is a long way's away, from what I saw at CES (they weren't showing much) it really looked like an LCD. The images from the demo given showed how 2-D the picture looked. There is something to be said for Plasma and CRT and the roundness and depth to images.

I'm also very skeptical of the promises new technologies make - whatever happended to OLED?? I'll believe it when I see it. Also agree that plasma and CRT still offer the most natural color reproduction of all the display technologies. You just can't beat the decades of research and development backing phosphors.
To be fair, I do like some of the newer direct view LCD sets for certain applications - they've come a long way with larger screen sizes, 1080p, reduced prices, and improved color accuracy. Still, they lag behind CRT for overall accuracy and image quality.Tannoy Dimension TD10, SOTA Star Sapphire, Heathkit W4A's, McIntosh MC2100, Eddie-Current Zana Deux, Singlepower SDS, Sennheiser HD650, Audio-Technica L3000, Sony Qualia 010 -
The black levels on the new LCD's isn't quite at a plasma level yet, but they keep getting closer and closer. One nice thing with the lcd's is the lack of glare compared to a plasma. It's more like being in the same room looking at an object instead of looking through a window at an object.

I love my LCD.
