Receiver Wiring Recommendations

Hey all, I just purchased the Yamaha RX-V659 with the back panel link below

http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/backs/RXV659B.htm#

How would you recommend hooking up the Polk RM6000 5.1 home theater speaker kit with two Infinity RS3s?

Reading the Polk manual, they would suggest wiring:
Polk 6000 Front sats: Sub&Receiver
Polk 6000 Center: Receiver
Polk 6000 Rear sats: Receiver
Polk 6000 Sub: ???I guess through the front speakers???
Infinity RS3s: as "Presence" speakers... whatever that means.

I would like the Infinity's to be the Front speakers but would this upset the balance of the Polk Home Theater kit?

Sorry for the stupid questions, any help would be appreciated. Thanks, D

Read the manual pal,the infinity's have a totally different
sound than the polks and would not timber match well.
USE all polk's if you want a seemless sound.Just curious,
why did you buy the polk 6000 ? Given the wide range
of offerings from polk, you didn't put too much thought into it.

Well Tonyb, that's why I have joined the forum. No, I did not put much thought into my purchase of the Polk 6000 over a year ago. We have just purchased a new coop and I have begun to completely overhall my entertainment system. The Yamaha RX-V659 was my first step with a Sony Bravia 40"BXR. If I were to give the Polk 6000s to my sister, what would you recommend that I use to accompany the Infinity's? Or do you have another home theater system from Polk that you would suggest?

    Thanks for the reply... D

If your stuck on haveing the Infinity's up front then go with all
Infinity's all around.Or dump them and try the LSI line for HT
and music.Like the lsi9 up front lsi center and maybe lsi7's in the rear
Yeah, they cost more, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay
for.Not a good idea to mix and match speakers. You will never have a
seemless sound for music.Sorry if I sounded like an ****,but when you ask a question like that, specify music or HT,budget, room size,do you have a sub?
ALL these are needed for someone to give you some good advice. So you live in a co-op,so tower speakers are out, correct?

For your current set up I say hook it all through the sub. The sub does not have 7.1 hook up. Must you use then infinity? I say don't bother. Keep what you have till you can afford a sepaker you like the sound of. Set what you have up and enjoy it for a while till you want and can afford other gear.
So I say, through the sub and go 5.1.

Hey Tonyb: Although our walls are constructed with cinderblock and sheet rock, tower speakers might upset the balance with the neighbors. I just went to pricegrabber to checkout the Lsi7's and they are going for $674/pair and the Lsic gets $500. Given that we just poured our life savings into our downpayment, would you recommend dropping to the Rti line or saving up some money and jumping into the Lsi. Before answering, let me answer your questions:

    1) Room size is approximately 15x10. 2) Music: Rock, Grunge, and rap--at coop owner levels. 3) Sub is part of the 6000 package; so no, no sub.

    Thanks again... D

I own rti line and have no complaints.
The rti4s have received very good reviews.

I own the rti8,csi3 and rti4. Very happy with my system.

I would look for the LSIs used on Ebay and such...if you are not in a hurry.

Oh but wait....you have a receiver so go wth the Rtis or you will end up crazy spending like me.

    Sure do, energy s10.2.

AS Wing mentioned the Lsi's need some serious power. With your 659 you could push the rti4-6 with no prob. Down the line you might wish to buy an external amp....but one thing at a time. Don't get frustrated with what you currently have. It beats the heck out of the tin cans they call speakers in TVs.

Willow: That is a serious subwoofer. How does one learn which types of speakers match with others to create a unified sound? From the messages above, it seems as though it is not recommended to mix and match brands... or is that just for the novice? --D

Yep, my mistake, the LSI LINE is great but are 4 ohm, your AVR
might have a problem with that.As Willow stated the RTI line could be it for you.Keep the psw10 cause for where you live,a better sub would be wasted.
You can match different brands of speakers but it takes a bit of knowledge,
and auditioning to do so.Still curious as to why your stuck on the Infinity's.
Do you like the sound better?Looks??What led you to Polk anyway?
    Inquiring minds.......:confused::)

Hey Tonyb: Based on all of the responses, I have decided to ditch the Infinity's. I will go with the RTI line. You chose the PSW10 over the PSW303 because it would be wasted in our small space or because of the neighbor below me with the broomstick?

To answer your questions: 1) I came to the HT Polk 6000 kit through a recommendation at www.CNET.com. And 2) why the fixation on the Infinity's? PLEASE don't laugh, but they are larger speakers... Now, I really sound like a "Polkie", eh?

Anyway, thanks for your patience and great recommendations. At long last, I'm beginning to feel as though I'm going to have a solid sound system thanks to y'all... D

Just picked up a "package" at Circuit City yesterday. Had M20 (2 ea) as the fronts, CSM as the center, M10 (surrounds) and a PSW10 sub. Added and Onkyo 603X A/V receiver, and I have quite a set up.... and I haven't even "fine tuned" it yet. All for $1k.... believe I got a fairly good deal, plus it also had Monster surge protector, Monster (100ft) cable, 12 Monster Sub cable, Monster Audio cable.... :D

I don't think that buying a good sub is a bad idea. A cheap one might sound boomy as a good one might give you tight sound and not sloppy.
You do have the option of turning down your sub ;)

Willow & Mikelboons: Thanks for response. I followed your advice Willow and ordered the PSW303--volume control is a beautiful thing. Now, Mikelboons is using all Monster cables...

Do Monster cables really make a difference given the price difference?

save some cash, either go to Ratshack and buy their cables, buy Acoustic Research, or buy used.

What cables are you looking for? I might have some xtras lying around.

Well, here is my final configuration; so, you tell me...

    Receiver: Yamaha RX-V659
    Front & Rear: Polk RTi4
    Center: Polk CSi3
    Sub: Polk CSW303
    TV: Sony 40" Bravia, BXR1

The only wire I've purchased so far is 100' of Monster cable for the speakers--it was on sale at my local Ratshack.

I owe my new sound system to you folks at the forum! My other components are:

    DVD/VCR Combo: Sony
    CD Player: Technics
Cable: As soon as we move into the new place, HD cablebox

Willow, would you use Acoustic Research cables for the sub? From the cable box to the TV? Where are these high end cables most effective? Advanced thanks... D

Now I would not say AR are high end but the beat the cables you get with your gear. Yes you can use a single run RCA cable to the sub now that you bought the 4's. You will not need to run the speaker cables to the sub then back to the speakers. You will use the SUB out on the back of your 659.
And better cables are effective in every aspect of your system.
