Man, I was ROLLING. Went to see a friend who had surgery and he's doing well....hit a thrifty and bagged some COOL vinyl to include a minty Nat King Cole box set and a minty Carole King Tapestry. Got the mancave to myself. Clean the Carole King LP, put it on the table.....Got Carole King, dog on my lap. cold MHL...I mean, what MORE could you want?
Something doesn't sound right...I look, the damn thing is warped like all get out. Then the dog horks up breakfast, lunch 2 buttons and 14 cents in change all over my lap which of course makes me spill my beer everywhere. What the hell is going on here?

Look at the bright side...the record was warped! I could never admit to men the I liked Carol King.

I hit one of the many Goodwills in my area today. Figured in and out in 15 minutes while my wife shopped a baby store nearby. I like this particular store because they never have more than 3-4 stacks of 50ish records to sort through. I've been told by one of the employees that they hold records in back until stuff sells out front. Good practice actually because it keeps me from sorting thorough all the same crap every time.
Today, I hit a small gold mine! Probably one of my best single visit finds. I found very clean, some near mint, copies of Dreamboat Annie, Saturday Night Fever, Foreigner 4, Billy Joel-The Stranger, The Eagles Greatest, a Bryan Adams, a Rod Stewart, This is Harry Belafonte (double disc set), a couple different Stevie Nicks, Carly Simon's Greatest (a CD-4), Linda Ronstadt's Greatest, a sealed copy of Journey-Escape, AND...
a minty copy of Carole King-Tapestry.
14 in total, for $14.85. Gotta love it! A little slanted to the female vocalist today, but that's unusual for me so I guess I'm just getting some balance in my collection.
I probably would have passed the Carole King by (wasn't really familiar with her), but I remembered Troy's recent experience, so I gave it a quick "is this worth a buck" exam and found it was completly free of noticable scratches on both sides. Shiny with sharply defined grooves. I didn't really know what I was getting, but I said, hey, why not give it a listen. If I don't like it, maybe I could pass it on to Troy, if its not warped
Finally got a chance to give some a listen. Started with the sealed Journey. Sounded beautiful, like a sealed copy should. That was done and I saw the Carol King next in the stack. Put it on the table and gave it a quick clean.
Went to fire it up and finish with the carbon fibre brush, all of a sudden my turntable wouldn't start! The table that's been working flawlessly for more than a month. Hit the button again, nothing. I was like damnit Troy, you turned me onto a cursed record!
Needless to say, I had to put the album away and pull the table out of my system for some closer inspection from below. Took off the bottom and really couldn't find anything wrong. Fiddled with the switches and the shutoff springs. Plugged it in half torn apart and all of a sudden it seemed to be working fine again.
Put everything back and dialed it back in. Slapped the Carole back on and this time, she didn't give me a hard time. Gave it a listen and no warps, its very clean, no static and you know what? Its pretty damn good music to boot! I recognize more than 80% the songs on the album. Many of the songs were better known from other artists' performances, but Carole had writting credit on all of the songs. They were her's originally!
So anyway, Thanks for turning me on to this album Troy. Well worth a buck! Hope your pooch is feeling better (and you find a better copy of Tapestry).
Sorry this was so long, I'm into the Tanqueray tonight and getting a little long winded. For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...
