just bought in on dvd today.

regardless of politics, idealogy, whatever, a great movie.

i highly recommend it. Heath Ledger's performance is absolutely devastatingly powerful.

probably the best movie since the LOTR trilogy.

peace.

Aside from a few select scenes, I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. Far more than I thought I would.

homophobic, the thought of a movie with 2 cowboys smooching just isn't my cup of tea.

Want to make a **** issues movie, look up "Philadelphia" (Tom Hanks) and take notes.

Want to make a cowboy movie ? Look up "Shane".

I have to admit, though, if Brokeback had two cowGIRLS smooching, than I'd be on Fandango right now ordering tickets.

no labeling necessary- to each his/her own. I'm only mentioning this thread as a movie review and/or an opportunity for other Polkies to comment on the movie, either positive or negative if they've seen it.

If you want to talk political or idealogical, do it another thread.

(edit) as for Philly, yes excellent movie. Certainly made Tom Hank's career and did good for Denzel. I thought i started this in the movie threads not the clubhouse. my mistake.

to bad because of all the hype of the subject matter and all the jokes that surrounded the movie. a lot of people missed this beautiful movie. It's art, with a little bit of imagination thrown in to tell a good story.

I'm not going to push the movie anymore. Everyone knows what it's about.. see it or don't. It is what it is.

My wife and I watched this last weekend. I have to say I wasn't expecting very much from this movie and it met my expectations. Possibly the most overrated movie of all time. There's no way this movie should have won any awards. It over achieved just by getting nominated. It didn't mind the story line and the "****" parts of the movie were so short as to be barely noticable. They showed them having sex with their wives more than with each other. And why so little dialog. The first 30 minutes had maybe 5 minutes of dialog. The whole time I kept wating for the movie to live up to its hype. Sadly it never did.

agree 101%. and not due to the '**** factor', but the movie just sucked. even if it were a movie about straight folk, it would have been boring.

I saw it at the theaters and enjoyed it and I will be renting the DVD to watch it again soon. I thought the actors and the producers took a Huge risk by telling this story. It definetly pushed me out of my comfort zone.

I wasnt' going to reply again but my kids saw this movie at their dads house.
when they started to tell us about it they were real confused about why they saw a movie about **** cowboys.
It was pretty funny hearing them describe the movie but the bottom line is they did not like it.

And you are right, not a kids movie and we were concerned about dads choice of movies.
we aren't all that great about movies either with all the R rated movies we let them see.

If you take out the ****, it's a sad / tragic love story, but one that's been told a million times. The only thing that set this apart from 20 years of goofy romantic "chick flicks" was the fact that there was a homosexual element to it.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

1 **** themed cowboy movie in 20 yrs VS 2000 goofy chick flick movies.. and i don't see a problem with that. but alot of people wigged out on that fact.

i haven't been big on the movies that have come out in the past few years. Too many have catered to the MTV crowd, special effects over characterizations. simple as that.

There's a LOT of movies that come out every year. Stop just watching the blockbusters and dig a little under the surface and you can find some really good movies if you're not into the special effects MTV movies. Cuz if Brokeback is the best movie you've seen in years, then you either really like sappy love stories (which is fine) or you need to broaden your horizons. (I don't mean that as an insult, just a suggestion.)

    Thats a good point.

There have been a lot of fluff movies that seem to have been releases just to release something.

There have been a few that I liked that along those lines but youre right that most have been forgetable to say the least.

No wonder Hollywoods sales are down something like 13%! Theyll snap out of it tho surely. There is too much creativity in that town to keep making crap.

They have talent but no balls.
They want guarantied profits and therefore they do not like to take chances.
They would rather re-make any movie that was a hit than take a chance of loosing money.
Once they feel it in their pocket books they my tap into their combined creativity and try something new but not till they have to.
