New amp advise Please...

Hi Gang,

I need to power my new (used) SDA 1.2tl's and my Denon receiver will do it without the speaker to speaker wire but when I connect it, it turns my receiver off. What type of new amp do you recommend for this home theater system with multi-surround speakers?

    I would venture to say that you have something shorted (miswired) in those cabinets somewhere. Your Denon receiver should power them at low levels without going into protect mode even with the SDA cable.

    With 15 years of owners, no telling what changes have been tried.

    I do have two tweeters that are not working, but the speakers work fine at loud volumes until I inter-connect them?

    All four tweeters only work at loud volumes. They are a variable array that only comes on when needed. 4 tweeters at low volume are overkill.

    If you number the tweeters 1-4 from top to bottom, the tweeters are used in the array in this fashion. 3-4-2-1 with the third tweeter from the top being the main tweeter that is always on.

    The array is not volume dependent, it's that they operate at different frequencies.


    Jack, as suggested by Doro, you need to check out your speakers because something isn't right in them.
