Toys in my Sub. . great!

ahh,

quick question. My younglings decided to put Bob the Builder inside my subwoofers vents (you know, those two large holes in the rear just BEGGING for toys).

well, they're in there, and seemingly not coming out. I have found no screws, and no way to actually open my subwoofer to get them out. So, what are my options? How do you get stuff out of your woofer?

and. .. does anyone want some free kids?;)

ANY help would be appreciated. thanks!

Pull the driver.

Probably a bandpass design if you don't see screws. Pull the amp.

Good doublesided sticky tape wrapped in a ball around the end of a stick might do the job if you can reach it.

I did notice the amp has screws, but was afraid to pull it, will this screw up my woofer if I take it out?

You can pull the amp or the woofer driver itself, just be careful to keep the gasket/seal intact. I would pull the amp since it is on the back of the box and that accidental scratch that always seems to happen when working with furniture grade stuff, would be on the back where it matters less. No chance of poking that screwdriver through the woofer either. Don't let anyone tell you this never happens.:D

The speaker leads should allow enough wire to set the amp aside enough to get your hand inside the box, move the polyfil aside and get to the toys.

yep, that would be the last time anyone would put anything in there, that's for sure!:eek:

well, no worries, I finally got all the toys out! They managed to stuff in:

1. Larry the Cucumber action figure
2. Vacuum attachment
3. Hot wheels race car
4. Some kind of McDonalds happy meal toy (another large car)
5. One, unused Q-Tip (that was the odd one)

so, the sub is clear. so thank you all for your help! nothing like watching kids destroy a 400 dollar subwoofer in a few minutes.:D my parents used to always say "We could never have nice things!!" Now, I honestly belive them, and understand why. . . .;)

Welcome to the club and your not alone. From toys too brushes and even part of an unfinished sandwich were stuffed into my VCR. My 57" HDEF screen is occasionally used to bounce balls off of and every darn button associated with my HT has been molested in some way, shape or form.

I just shake my head... and yes my parents said the same thing.

So far I am lucky because my kids are not home alone and know they are not to touch the rig however, what I don't know will probably cost me sooner or later.

Well, I can tell you, I'm a stay at home dad, getting through animation school, and it only takes a second to look away, and have your kids stuff something inside a component, speaker or vent. its amazing. now, when they did this, they were much younger, one was about two years old, another 14 months or something, so it has been a while, I just never got around to doing anything about it, and was just too scared to pop the amp and get toys out. I just lived with it, but finally got fed up of hearing toys "rattle" during star wars or any other movie that used the bass heavily.

my kids are now 5 and 6 (yes its been a while) but now have learned to keep hands OFF over the years. As a matter of fact, I'm building my movie room as we speak, and have decided to mount everything on the ceiling or wall. . . .never again at a childs height. They know now about my electronics. . . but you know kids. . one day my sub may turn into space station number 6 with great docking bays for another toy to find its way in the second I turn my head. thats ALL it takes.:rolleyes:

Dont feel bad my 3 year old daughter who was drinking from a sippie cup walked over to my 55" hitachi and spit water into the bottom of the screen. This generous act caused moisture to build up 6" behind the screen.

Much to my surprise I managed to control myself enough to avoid taking her over to the local orphanage.

Just so everyone knows , my daughter is still alive, and the water evaporated the next day leaving no noticable damage.

It is paybacks for all the bad stuff I did to my parents.

And I too turned my head for only 2 seconds! What does not kill us makes us stronger!
