Lay and Skilling will have the book thrown at them. Doesn't matter how much wealth they have. The jurors have to put their feet down and make a definitive point and I believe they will take this opportunity. It's past the point of no return when it comes to finally shining a light on a problem that's been going on for decades.

things will be tied up in appeals court for years... that's a given. Do you think the judge will really throw the book at them? I don't. I think during sentencing, the judge will be soft on them.

Martha Stewart got what, 5 months? and fined $30,000 - basically a slap on the hand.

The sentence was the minimum the judge could impose under federal sentencing guidelines. The fine, while relatively small given Stewart's wealth, was the maximum allowed under federal rules.

You could take all their money, and in the blink of an eye they could get a book deal from someone worth millions. They need some hard jail time.

this isn't in the same ballpark, league or sport as Martha Stewart. They'll both get the book thrown at them, especially Skilling.

I would like to see the person who is using all of the US wellfare safeguards that is still forced to eat dogfood. No soupkitchen in the area? Where is welfare? SS? No private church groups to helping out?

Talk to some welfare officials about the street corner urchins. They will tell you to stop giving them money since it keeps them from using the system that is there to help them.

Someone eating dogfood is either uninformed as to what programs are available, insane, misplaced priorities, or hamming it up for the camera's.

they used to carry the instruction, "Not for Human Consumption".

That wasn't put there to fill empty space.

Soup kitchen ? Yes, we have one downtown. So if you live in the county, as I do, you can get in the car and drive downtown for some free food at Larry Rice's Mission. Down and back, including soup, should only take 3 or 4 hours. Yes, I guess I could do that every day.

.....or I could get my can of 33 cent (on sale) Alpo, close my eyes and pretend it is flank steak. Save some major time and money.

By the way, convince your church to start a soup kitchen, and the surrounding citizens will get it shut down pronto. "Undesirables".

As sure as the sun comes up in the east every morning, this is also true:
there are elderly who eat dog food. In this country. Right now.

Sure there are, but I would also point out that there are programs put in place that would allow them to not have to do that. Especially the elderly.

Uh, my local church runs a soup kitchen. We have at least 7 different faith based kitchens in a town of 40,000.

The fact of the matter is that it is the peoples choice to eat dogfood, not a requirement. Besides, Ramen and hotdogs are cheaper anyway.

They put "not for human consumption" on motor oil, ruibbing alcohol, charcoal, arsenic, and fish bait as well so I really don't know what the point of that is.

And thanks to enron will will have 10's of thousands of people looking to the community for support, foot, rent checks. That is why these guys better fry in hell!!!!

Side note: Martha did nothing, in my eyes (I blame the agent), wrong and they gave her 4 months. I hope the judge is still in "example" mode.

Or they could get a job... Right? Yeah, it sucks, but it's not the end of the world. 10's of thousands? Really? All of them on community support?

Most of them went back to work somewhere else.

Thanks for being literal...The point was to show how many people are effected and maybe...just maybe look at the far reaching impact of the situation. I know I was shooting hi.

I hope you recieve the same compation when you have trouble.

I totally remember that. Too funny.

But what is not so funny is how these scum come out of this type of situation with plenty of money and job offers. Remember michael milken? (sp)

I know you were exagerating... ;)

Thanks for the warm wishes. Interestingly enough, it won't happen to me because I won't let it. Let's see, very diversified portfolio including mineral rights and gold along with stocks, +30% of my income going into savings, two people willing to work. Add that to the fact that I'm willing to change jobs and abandon a sinking ship, well.... What is compation anyway? Compensation? Compassion? what were you going for there?

The far reaching impact? Yes, it sucked but it isn't the difference between someone living in a million dollar house and retired or homeless eating dogfood. Those employees that never diversified or had their whole retirements tied up in a pension got screwed the worst. Had they followed the advice of anyone in the financial planning field, they wouldn't have gotten hit nearly as hard. Losing 25% of your net worth is a hell of a lot better than 100%.

Don't get me wrong, what the execs did is wrong and they deserve to go to jail for a really long time, and while what happened to the employees sucks, they need to move on. They should take a little bit of the responsibility for their financial ruins. Just a little... Suck it up and work for another 10 years, decrease your retirment plans, whatever... The fact is what happened was bad and the people who are responsible are going to prison or are dead.

did you guys see the Skilling's press conference after? Asked on how he felt, he almost literally said: oh well, **** happens....

Now, that my friend, deserved a mention and a rearrangement to both of his balls to conspicuously hang from his ****.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

A serious question, what type of response would have made you feel any better about the whole situation?

If you just found out you were going to jail for a very, very long time for **** over thousands of people for millions of dollars, you might be a bit resigned as well.

Cut your wife and lovers head off, get aquitted.

    Steal money, get sent up.

What it boils down to is guilt and a double standard, as if it needs to be spelled out. Both things are wrong, but jurors are by and large the biggest morons the country has to offer. If you've been called up you know it's nearly impossible to get on a meaningful court case and be normal.

These guys should go through the ringer, but you're on to something JD when you talk about the odd amount of outrage about this case, but not others. Like, how we're more outraged by these guys as a culture than Zacarias Moussaoui.
