Some guy on a photography website I visit snapped this shot of the new F-22 Raptor at an airshow.

Total badass looking fighter plane! Imagine having the job of flying it.
No excuses!

Don't hold your breath, they're having troubles getting intact squadrons fielded, let alone a show team. Maybe in 10-15 years...

Will the Navy even be getting these???

You can rest assured that the Thunderbirds will be flying those babies in the near future though.

I have no idea about the angels but I did hear that these planes were being fitted with tail hooks so who knows? It really depends on who is spending the dollars to make it happen. Politics.

There will be no Naval / Marine / Army designated F-22 airframe. The other aircraft slated for all services with a somewhat similar design was known as the Joint Strike Fighter. But if I remember correctly, problems in its weight has all but contributed to the head chopping of that massive project.

That's what I thought. I watch the Military channel alot and that's the last I'd heard on THIS plane.

No silly, this is an F-23. It was discussed as a navy plane but scrapped in favor of the super hornet / A-12 program and the A-12 was scrapped for the JSF

Hell yeah, compared to Russia's, Europe's, and China's top planes. Couldn't find any pics of China's since, well, they're all copies of other stuff:

Looks like they all copied eachother to a point...

The russian "claim" the mig-35 (Furthest left of my pics in post 16) is superior to the F-22... Yeah, right...

As for the Eagles, shoot, that was going into the frontlines at the end of Vietnam some 30 years ago. About time someone caught up to it...

Lets face it, pretty soon we will not need all that room up front for a pilot and then we will start to see some sick planes.

You mean like this one from the 80's? This thing had the capability of outdogfighting anything in the world (Including the F-22)

When it comes to the maneuverability of our planes the pilot is the weakest link. They can not handle the G's that are produced by the newer planes.

An rc dogfight would be awesome to watch.

Aren't most of the fighter planes that do not come from the US designed by Dassault? I thought I read somewhere that even the newer Migs are designed by the french.

I remembered reading that the HIMAT could fight at -10 to +20G's and have a thrust to weight ratio of over 2:1. It had interchangable wing structures as well (Forward swept, delta, etc...) pretty cool plain. Problems with RC is AI is too dumb and RC can be jammed or have delays (Command-Satellite-plane)

Wouldn't suprise me, the French will sell anything to anyone..:o

Actually, the russians still design their own, they just can't afford to build/field them...

Dogfighting is going the way of the doo-doo bird, who wants to get in close when they can fire from miles away.

I just really like all the technology that is going into the new war planes.

Now if we could get the comercial sector to employ some technology that would allow us some legroom and maybe even reclining seats. :D

    That's a pretty bad-**** plane.

Here's a picture of my brother's jet over Iraq back in April '03. If you zoom in, you can see "LCDR Brett Odom." I found it on the USS Harry S. Truman's web site when the war had just started. He had just finished an aerial refueling when the picture was taken.

I had a chance to go work for Lockheed at the Marrietta plant where the F-22's are built. Too bad it wasn't in a different area, I really didn't want to move to Georgia.
I miss my military days, got to see and be a part of some really neat things, like this, which I took somewhere over Texas I believe.

As an officer flying Air Force AWACS, I can assure you the F-22 will be the last plane the Air Force flies without a pilot. In 10-12 years(2016-2018) our fighter force (Active Duty) will be comprised of remote controlled A/C

I thought the F-35 or JSF were the Navies new jet. The one where it has the ability to hover so it can take off carriers without the use of a launcher. Well I saw this on PBS a year or two ago, things change fast.

    EVERYBODY is developing them.

The tactics of warfare are definitely changing.

The image of swarms of UAVs coming from China across the border, followed by a million-man army is rather frightening.
