    Hi Robert,

Doubtful. To my knowledge, there is nothing to magnetize in the media. I'd be looking for a tube going bad somewhere in the signal path.

Ooops, just re-read. With two separate systems, it's a mystery. CD dirty? Did it play well in the past?

A CD cannot be magnetized....stop talking to the leprechauns.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Sounds like something is wrong with the right side of your CD.

Turn it around and see if the problem goes to the left speaker.

It's a rare phenomenon but it could be the layer with the 1's and 0's has become defective in certain spots. Hold it up to the light and look for pin holes or discoloration. I've never had this happen with a store bought cd, but I've had 2 out of about 500+ cdr's with this phenomenon. Just a thought.

Rewind the cd all the way, then try it.

As per Doro's recent suggestion for myself, I'd try putting the right channel IC in your right ear, and seeing if that helps any.

If not, you may wanna make sure the little 'security' tab on the front hasn't been broken off.

Interestingly enough, I once bought a special edition cd from a garage band I know that used engraved metal as the actual cd cover. A very small layer, but a layer never the less. In my friends less than ideal setup, the cd would skip horribly due to it's vacinity to his home made sub woofer, I assume due to the magnetic forces.

I doubt anyone else has done this as the process is also obscenely expensive.
Lovin that music year after year.

mmmm... the data layer on manufactured CD's is aluminum, which is resolutely non-magnetic. They make voice-coils out of aluminum wire.

Now, aluminum CAN oxidize, but I don't thinkyou have a problem with your medium.

Waaaaaaa:eek: . I have an XLO cd with a "Demagnetizing Sweep" track. If anyone is interested, I'll sell for $200 shipped. No use in just demagnetizing the cd, you have to demagnetize your whole rig:p ;) .
