In-wall Sub
I am building a home theater in my basement and building the TV and components flush with a wall for a clean, theater screen look. My wife isn't too excited about the big Velodyne cabinet, but could probably be convinced to use it as an endtable or something. She did ask a question that I didn't have an answer for though.....
Could I build the sub into the wall so the front of the cabinet is flush with the front wall beside the TV? Would there be any issues other than the lack of flexibilty in sub placement if this position isn't right for the room?

I didn't read the entire page, but I already have a sub. I don't (and can't right now) want to replace my sub. I just want to know if I can mount it in the wall. Should I keep reading that link for an answer?HT

assuming the port & speaker are at the front, it will be an ok, but less than ideal solution. If you make it fit tight, you won't be able to get to the electronics or put in a different sub in the future. If you make it big, you'll get weird gain/ boominess from the enclosure around the sub. One option would be to take apart your sub and recreate it in MDF in the wall, but with the electronics, port and driver all accessible. That would give you the cleanest solution (but would leave you stuck with that sub).
You could also take apart your sub and switch it over to an IB, but given that it's ported now, you'll probably bottom it out trying to get to the levels you were reaching before. It'll go below the driver Fs with much more authority, but everywhere else you'll have less volume.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19
