Sony CDP-210 CD Changer(1984) - 8/10
This Karma offering is for a NM Sony 5-Disc CDC w/ brand new SONY DAPC User's Manual. It's in known working condition and has been thoroughly cleaned, with all connections treated w/ CAIG products.
This is not the CDP-210ES, just the stock model sans some internal structure and a different transport mechanism. The unit has NO REMOTE, but can be run by modern remotes via generic Sony codes. It also has a headphone output for late night porno watching, as the music always sucks in those things anyways. It's a solid and reliable unit, nothing more, nothing less.
The unit also comes with the original transport lockdown device. This lockdown "key" is important when it comes to shipping as it prevents one of two things, depending on type of key and manufacturer....it simply locks the drawer in place or locks the laser pickup assembly down, which in turn, locks the drawer in place. There are cassette decks that used to feature lockdown keys as well, as the Nakamichi RX series comes to mind.
Heloise on Audio: If you buy a CDP, especially used and older, ALWAYS ask about the lockdown key. If it used one, and they don't have it, don't buy it. If they say "Don't worry, I'll tape the drawer shut."...don't buy it, move along. If you're looking at CDP's that cheap, there's another one next door.
The shipping is of course FREE to the "winner". Thanks for looking, good luck.
Includes: Factory(Sony) reproduction user manual.
***Qualifications for Karma?***
No newbies, sorry. If you're real new, get involved with the forum...skip the Karma.
The MAIN requirement to ALL is as follows.....
What is your favorite loudspeaker?"....that you have actually owned. I don't care about some ridiculous demo you had in a store, something you heard 20 years ago while drunk in the Police station or some boring Polkfest listening epiphany
Be honest, be candid, be real.
Don't feel obligated to say it's a Polk Audio speaker either, as we have more than enough gushing about Polk available everyday....so forget about them if possible.
Everyone who responds, will be added, but I think it would be really cool if you would let folks know your opinion. You don't have to be extremely in-depth, but simple, one sentence comments will get you thrown into the trash.
KARMA WILL END ON 05/28/06

Cool karma, for sure. I need a cheap CDP to add to the system I just moved my Yamaha receiver to.
My Klipsch RF-35 are the only speakers I've owned worth mentioning, so they're the favorite speakers I've ever owned, lol. But out of everything I've ever heard, Monitor Audio's high-end line would probably have to be my favorite. The presence and impact such a small speaker enclosure can provide just amazes me.George Grand wrote: »

well my favorite speakers would have to be my sda's. They are of the 2 b flavor and to my ears they just seem to do everything right. I love the sound stage that I get to drown in. the only short coming would be bass extention.
It would be cool to get a cdp for the boys system -

Thanks Doro.......comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
My favorite speakers...
By far would have to be the Definitive Tech BP10B. Pretty simple why it is, I completely rebuilt them, inside and out. I explored their technology between their entire line up and their company. So I really enjoyed tinkering with them.
I also just enjoyed the speakers as a whole -- they were very fun to tinker with placement and dial in their sound.
I enjoyed them alot. My definite step into good sound.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
I heard some Sttaf's and Mani2 at a buddies house....always liked Totem anyways. Very generous Karma.
I had a pair of Klipcsh LaScala's for about a week. They sounded fantastic loud, but I was in an apartment and they sounded like crap at lower volumes. I traded those back in and got some Chorus II's and a pair of KG-4's. I would have put the Chorus II's on the top until I heard the LS-90's in the showroom. Needless to say, I traded the Chorus II's and the KG-4's for some LS-90's and a pair of LS-50's and have never looked back. Bottom line, the LS-90's are the "best" speaker I have owned. I sold them recently and have all Polk in-walls (TC series) now, but will have LS-90's again by the end of the year. -
My all time favorite loudspeaker?
I was actually thinking about this the other day. The KLH 17 is THE best all around loudspeaker, and my personal favorite.
It's large enough to be a floorstander, and still small enough to actually sit on a shelf. Classic, clean look. Sealed box bass, and a simple 2-way design. Inverted cloth surround on the woofer means no foam issues and long term durability. Great vocals, easy to drive but can take the spurs being put to them also. Bass is adequate for listening sans subwoofer, and the top end is spot on, with just the right touch of sparkle. Take all that, and the fact you can pick up a NICE pair for under a Franklin - it's a winner in my audio book.
Cheers,

My fav has to be my 3.3R's in that they cause me to sell off the SDA's and buy a lot more accoustical/well recorded music. Dig the karma Doro, I would like to be in for a chance.
My favorite speakers that I own are my Polk RT3000's.
I have not owned any other speakers worth mentioning.
My RT3000's sound great wired up full range (only using speaker wire and not the LFE input) I let the SVS do the grunt work while the RT3000's just reproduce the left and right channel as the sound engineer intended it.
Of coarse I really like them for HT, for 2 channel they sound pretty good.Skynut

I'm a sucker for a CD changer....so "In Please".
While they are not the be all, end all of speakers, I have a soft spot for my New Large Advents. These gems were the mainstay of my stereo, then first HT system for over 20 years, until the foam surrounds disentegrated. They have the classic "New England Sound", which for a lack of a better term I would describe as "lush". Even though they played their share of rock, they are better suited to a more laid back type of music. After a re-foam they are nearly as good as new and still give a listening experience that is smooth and non-fatiquing...a speaker you can listen to for hours. It is a 2-way design, with a 10" woofer and the off-set orange "Fried Egg" cone tweeter. At around 35Hz it digs deep enough for most most music with no need for a sub. They only get hooked up on the rare occasion now, but I still enjoy them when I do."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

Thanks for offering this most excellent karma.
I have owned many Polks and the RT800 would have to be the best pair I have owned. Since you are encouraging other brands I would argue that my KLH 911B would be near the top of the list in the bang for the buck catagory. Very nice neutral little bookshelves that started out as sealed boxes in the earlier models but later "grew" a port. They seem to roll off at about 60 hz and don't play real loud but do have fairly decent sq. Best of all, a few years ago they could be had for all of $20/pair.

I'd like to join this karma as well...
Well, I've only owned two sets of speakers thus far in my life -- an old pair of Sony towers I took from my Dad and my current set of Polk RTi70's. I must say that the RTi70's are leaps and bounds ahead of the Sony's that I once used. Since my speaker ownership experience has been so limited, I can only say that the 70's are my favorite speaker that I've ever owned. Hopefully in the next year or so, I will be upgrading, but I'll always have a soft spot for the RTi's.

Best of luck to the rest though.
For What It's Worth:
The only speakers I've owned besides Sony's, are the RTi8's really. Amazing speaker for the price. I'm up to a Polk 5.1 HT and man, I'm in heaven!
Thanks to this board, and all the excellent advice I'm learning more everyday. Someday, I will move into some Paradigms maybe for 2-channel, but for the time being, I'm content with the setup I have!Honoured to be, an original SOPA founding member

I think my favorite speaker as of right now is a set of Fostex cain& cain DIY knockoff's I built. They go way lower than you'd ever expect and the midrange is completely transparent. The top end, not so much...Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19

I haven't owned a great variety of speakers. I've built quite a few over the last two or three years, but I can't call any of them my favorites.
My favorite speakers that I've owned are the SRS 2's. The first 'real' speakers I ever owned were a set of Realistic Mach 1's, and I was real fond of them at the time- I have no idea what I'd think of them if I heard them today, because my whole frame of reference has shifted.
Thanks for the Karma offer!

Ok, I'm in.
Considering the limited amount of gear owned to this date: I previously owned a pair of Scott bookshelves, and a pair of Pioneer towers that served me well considering I was on a high school budget at the time......
Fast forward to today, my favorite loudspeaker that I have owned are my current R30's. Compared to the aforementioned stuff, The R30's have nice & detailed mids, and clear highs. Whereas the older speakers drew attention to themselves, the R30's have much better imaging and offer an improved openness to the sound. The low end isn't very pronounced, but this is expected; the R30's are basically mid-range speakers. When relieved of lower frequencies and paired with a sub, the R30's do their job well. Will the upgrade bug bite me in the future? Of course it will, but for now these are the best speakers that I have owned, and although these are not the best speakers out there, I enjoy them everyday.:)Receiver: harmankardon AVR235
Mains: polk R30
Center: polk CSi3
Rear Surrounds: polk R20
Subwoofer: polk PSW404

What the heck, I'm in. It would be perfect for the shop system.
Favorite speakers I have ever owned are my SDA-1C's. Been enjoying them for 17 years now, and they have gotten even better with the new tweeters. Before these, I used to change speakers at least once or twice a year! -
I have not owned very many speakers, and most of the speakers I have owned have been Polks. Since you said to forget about the Polks I guess I will have to say that the best speakers I have owned would be my Realistic minimus 7's. I have the wooden ones, not the metal ones. I can't stand the way the metal ones sound. The 7's have no deep bass. They are pretty good down to about 60-70hz, anything below that is none existant. However the mid range and the high ends on the speakers are fantabulous. They are probably not the best speaker ever made, but for there size, I don't think they can be beat. And they CAN'T be be for there size and price range.
I know you did not ask what the best speaker combo you have ever heard is, but... I have paired the minimus 7's with a pair of baby advents and the combination is perfect. The mids and highs on the Advents are HORRIBLE to say the least, but the minimus's drown out the Advents mids and highs. The Advents supply the lows. Toghther they sound really, really good.Setup:

The mint RTA 12-Cs I got from you have become my favorite. They have fantastic synergy with tube gear, a detailed and accurate soundstage, smooth mids and highs, and respectable bass from the PRs (I just added a PSW-650 for the last bit of LF detail.) They'll be the last speakers out the door here.
-
Tough choice....it's a toss between the Dahlquist DQ-10's and the Dynaco A-25
The DQ's offer so much in terms of holographic imaging and the purest midrange outside of a GOOD electrostat plus the added benefit of being able to move enough air (given proper amplification) to credibly reproduce a symphony.
The Dynaco is, IMHO, the best of the myriad of 2-way's based around a 10" driver and dome tweeter.
