The mini-van replacement.

Well after driving a mini-van for the last 5 years, I am finally back in the ranks of a car driver. I wanted something fun to drive with lots of toys in it. My wife required 4 doors and requested an american brand name (as opposed to the ever elusive american car).

After giving up on having something fun to drive, I finally have something to look forward to driving.

I pick it up tomorrow - here is a stock picture of it and I will post some pics after I get it.

I demand pictures of you laying down 20 feet of black marks with white smoke billowing from your tires as you make haste down your street!

    Specs are as follows:

2006 Dodge Charger R/T Daytona (in the same orange color as the picture above)

DVD navigation, rear seat video, 300 watt audio system with sub, sirus radio with 6 disk changer and MP3 decoding, Bluetooth capable (to connect wirelessly to cell phone that I don't own..), etc.

I am really looking forward to it. It is a large car (4,000 pounds) but drives very nice, is quiet, has a 350hp motor and is rear wheel drive (with traction control). Should be quite the change from my mini-van... :)

I like the orange better than the yello's that they have out there as well.

Other than the graphics package, is there anything different between them and the standard R/T model?

There is quite a bit different between it and the standard R/T. You can get a road and track package on the standard R/T that does give you most of the upgrades though.

Between a standard R/T with the Road and Track package and a Daytona there is not that much different on the inside. (outside is the paint, graphics, front and rear spoiler, and grill.) I do not know if the seats are the same in the daytona and road and track, but the seats in the daytona are awesome. Very supportive and stick you in place very well. I would say the most comfortable seats for the charger by a rather large amount.

I am going to be picking up the charger today (or at the latest tomorrow) but I have a quick question for you all.

The Daytona comes with a sticker on the hood that says "Hemi" on it. I think it looks ugly and was going to have the dealer take it off. (but leave the other stickers on the car)

What do you guys think of it and should I leave it on there?

It is actually a heavy tape similar to what many dealers use to put pinstriping on a car. (I am assuming that when I am ready to trade in the car, I can always purchase another sticker and have it put back on)

Here are a few pics of what it looks like.

I think the entire car is painted and clear coated and then the graphics are just stuck on. (appear to be a thick poly-vinal type deal in flat black)

I love the burnt orange metallic color, but the big HEMI sticker on the hood is just a little boy-racerish for me.

Anyway - thats why I wanted opinions.....

(to answer your question, I should be able to take it off now - if I wait a few years and the paint fades around the sticker, that may not be the case.)

I agree with you.....I'm not a huge fan of that big chunky sticker on the hood. I think it might look a bit off if you totally remove it, but maybe you can put something on there instead ala viper racing stripes to ease the look a bit.

I like the idea of the viper racing stripes. Would you do it just on the hood, or remove all the stickers (daytona side stickers and the one on the back of the trunk) and run the stickers all the way down the car?

I am sure that would cost extra (they will remove the hood sticker for me for free) but it may be worth it.

On a side note, the dealer is in a small town near me (very small rural town) and they have over 50 vipers there. They said they were the number 1 or 2 viper dealer in the nation for the last x number of years. Just seemed odd to see that many cars that cost close to $100,000 each in such a small town.

They were a great dealership to work with though - they get my highest recommendation.

I agree about taking off the big ol' piece of vinyl on the hood. Perhaps some matt black racing stripes down the hood would do better.
