What speakers respond well to Crossover mods?

I'm looking to get a pair of bookshelf speakers that respond well to crossover modifications, such as dropping higher quality resistors, caps, and coils. I'd even be up for slight mods to the circuit design. I'm a EE just looking for a project to tinker with while keeping my knowledge polished. I'm not looking to spend more than $200 for the pair. Looking forward to hearing some ideas. Thanks a lot!:D

why don't you tinker with your Lsi's?

Try some SDA CRS's. While I haven't tried it myself, I have heard some good things about it.

I would think any quality speaker would benefit from upraded components, as long as the specs and values are kept.

Agreed. Upgrade the crossover components, take lots of pics, and post them here along with your before/after review.

You can buy a pair of $200 speakers and tinker with them, but putting Mercedes spark plugs in a Hyundai ain't gonna make it a great car. A better option would be to search for a kit and DIY. Try www.madisound.com or www.partsexpress.com.

I'm hesitant to tinker with my Lsi's because there still in the "honeymoon" stage. ;) The DIY kits sound tempting, and I'm gonna look into going that route.

+1 on the SDA-CRS's. Most of the SDA's can be tweaked to advantage. The CRS's can probably be had at a good price if you keep an eye out.
The DIY route should be fun also, although good DIY speaker components aren't necesarily inexpensive.

Speaking of xover upgrades, has anyone ever replced the xovers in their Rti's?
would it be worth it and if you have what have you noticed?
