ok so heres my deal.
i have a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited
my system so far is as follows...
HU - Alpine CDA-9815 Headunit

Speaker Amp - Polk MOMO Carbon C400.4 Amplifier
Front Speakers - Polk MOMO MMC650
Rear Speakers - Polk MOMO MMC5250

Subwoofer Amp - Phoenix Gold Octane R-15.0:1
Subwoofer - Xtant X1244 12"

Additionial Equipment -
2 Stinger 1 Farad Battery Capacitors
Alpine CVA-1003 7" Video Screen
Alpine DVA-5205 DVD Player

Ok. so everything is in and it sounds great so far. but i have a few questions. #1 - because i have my polk amp powering both my front and rear speakers, doesnt that mean that the 27x4 continuous rms that my alpine headunit is supposed to be giving out isnt being used? if it isnt being used, would it be able to power another set of speakers cleanly?
ex - if i got Polk MOMO MMC690's, would i need to buy an amp to power them, or would the power that my headunit gives out be enough to power them? if it is enough, is it any worse than powering them with an amp?

#2 - i'm planning on buying another 2 subwoofers for my system, and i thinking either 2 8's or 2 10's polk momos. Given what i already have as a system, which would be a better step? and if i got woofers, would getting polk speakers as well and powering them with my headunit be a good idea?

sorry for all the questions :x, any help is appreciated.
System in construction.. :)

Agreed. Head unit power is a baaaad thing. Its ok if all youre wanting is some tunes to pass the time while youre driving to work but if youre serious about your sound then you dont want anything being powered by your head unit.

Also, youve got enough speakers. You dont really need anymore.

    Get the 10's.

kay, so thats out. thanks blackmax. so if i get 2 woofers, which would be better for my system, 2 8" polks or 2 10" polks. my only fear with the 10s is that it will be too much.. dont know wot to do :p

    Get the 10's!

It wont be too much. Its not that the 10's will be any louder than the 8's necessarily but they will hit lower.

I would also shoot for the 10's. I was running a single 10" sub for a while. I had 400 watts RMS going to it. It sounded pretty nice. I just recently moved to a 12" sub to get a little more oomph in my low end.
