Greetings all:) , I have a Yamaha HTR-5890 (7 channel 980 W (140 watts x 7) receiver/amp,
( http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/HTIB/HTR5890.htm )
2 Polk R50's, 1 Polk PSW 12, a Sony DVP-CX995V DVD (400 disk) player
(http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=DVPCX995V%2fKIT2&Dept=tvvideo&CategoryName=hav_DVD_DVDPlayers
, and 2 Sony SS-MF750H floor speakers. http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/+INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Print?ProductSKU=SSMF750H
I have Acoustic Research(AR) digital optical cable, 14 AWG speaker wire, Monster Ultra 600 Subwoofer cable(with Y conector for LFE/R inputs) and Monster banana plug speaker cable connectors.
I've read the Polk PDF files. I have also read Doc's suggestions on other peoples equiptment, and some comments from Ken Swauge (Polk Customer Service) on other people's systems.
I understand that I use my digital optical cable from my Sony DVD/CD player into my Yamaha HTR-5890. However, the speaker hook-up, to my PSW12 (Polk psw12 PDF file Option 1/ Polk Option 2) is still confusing (along with the settings of front large speakers (Sony SS-MF750H) and Rear speakers (Polk R50's) and cross over frequences). I was told to use the Monster Ultra 600 subwoofer cable (RCA) with Y adapter, and plug that into my PSW 12's (Low Frequency Effect) LFE/R jack(or is it L). This would correspond with Polk's Option 2 PDF file, but it leaves out the rear speakers (which is differently wired in Polk pdf Option 1). Add to this mix of choosing front Large speakers, rear medium (small?) speakers and frequency adjustments, has left me confused. Someone, please set me straight (roll it to me please, I'm a newb).
Greatly appreciated.:)

Nap, welcome. First, a bit of chiding for wasting money on that monster cable, which is grossly overpriced along with most of their other stuff; there's no good reason to spend more than about $10 on a coaxial cable for the sub connection. Connect the sub out on the 5890 to the single LFE input on your PSW12(option 2); don't use the Y-connector to the left and right line inputs as you were told. Your 5890 will handle all the bass management, so you want to bypass the internal crossover in the PSW12 by using the unfiltered LFE input. Set all speakers "SMALL" on your 5890 with the crossover at 80Hz. The bass should be assigned to "SWFR" on the 5890, so that your PSW12 will be responsible for any LFE which might be present during movies and the bass below 80Hz from the speakers. All of your speakers except the sub would be connected with speaker wire directly from the outputs on the 5890, as usual; they won't be connected through the PSW12.
