Returning the Yamaha; what about NAD?

I've decided to return the Yamaha I bought and am basically starting over, again. The speakers are LSi 15's and I am keeping them. I did a search here and another member asked about receivers for his LSi's and NAD came up. I only have a few days left to return the Yamamha and although I will be getting an amp, I wanted to know what you think about the NAD receiver. I am only doing 2 channel stereo, no HT. I found a dealer locally, he's been in business along time and I feel a little more comfortable making purchasing this in person rather than online.

Thanks,

Cindy

    Excellent gear.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Are you committed to buying a receiver only? Lsi's would really shine with seperates...

    Good choice.

NAD has a warm, smooth sound you will find mates well with LSi's. Make sure it has pre outs to be able to utilize an amp down the road. At the very least, be sure it will handle a 4 Ohm load.

BTW, which model are you looking at?

Just to clarify here; are you going to use the NAD with an amp or are you considering getting the NAD instead of the seperate amp? The NAD will be a nicer sounding unit than the Yammy by itself. But if you are going with an amp why not get a good pre-amp to run the amp and viola....your running quality seperates.

You don't HAVE to have a receiver to run a power amp. Many do this because the receiver has surround processing features and are typically much less $$$ than dedicated susrround processing preamps.

If you are running 2-ch only why not get one of the other amps discussed in your other thread and then get a nice used pre-amp (provides switching between sources, balance and volume). For 2-ch use this is the way to go.

Honest specs, very musical, no unnecessary bells & whistles, built like a tank, 4 ohm load no problem. I can attest to all of the above, I've owned a T773 receiver for over 2 years now. I highly recommend NAD gear.

NAD would be a leap up over the Yamaha in terms of higher end sound. You should really consider the NAD then.

Just got back from returning the Yamaha; I felt SO bad doing that but I feel it was the right thing to do. I will go tomorrow and am getting the two pieces below. Hope I've made a good choice. I told the guy what I wanted and these are what he recommended for the amount of money I had. I just don't have the funds to get really high end equipment that most of you seem to have; wish I did but I have to be realisitic. Any opinions/comments are welcome and appreciated.

While i am not familar with those two NAD's... i can tell you NAD lasts for years and years. I know friends with NAD stereo gear from way way back still in use today.

THe specs on that C372 look impressive. It's a heavy unit too. ;) you may need some help bringing it home. :)

NAD has a long history of high quality electronics. I think you'll be very happy with them.

If you don't mind me asking, how much is that tuner running you?

Excellent choice. I have a NAD C160 preamp and C270 stereo amp. These are the separates that are comparable to the C370 integrated amp (the predecessor to the one you are buying). I have also heard the C372. It is great gear and will push the LSis with ease. The NAD will serve you well as long as you want it to.

audiobliss - I think it is $299; he gave me the amounts for the two pieces and I think that is what he quoted me. I will find out for sure tomorrow and let you know if you'd like. After reading the posts from everyone, I feel much better about my decision. He sure had some nice equipment in there; spent almost 2 hours with me playing different setups. The majority of what I saw was so out of my price range but I felt he treated me as well as he would someone who has thousands of dollars to spend.

If I were you I'd hold off on the tuner for now and just give the C372 a shot. You could probably pick up a decent tuner here for a lot less than buying a new nad.

I have a c352 and love it. It runs my lsi7's and has absolutly no problem pushing them. I was tempted to go for the c372 but didn't really need the built in phono preamp or the little extra wattage so I saved myself some cash with the 352. It should have no problems pushing your 15's. You should notice quite a bit of difference between the yamaha and the nad.

I'd watch for a series Tuner used before I'd buy one new....that's good advice above. The IA choice is solid.

Nice choice on the C372. I sure hope you get $300 worth of use out of that tuner. I suppose if you are a big radio listener you will. Let us know how it all comes together. I think you'll be happily suprised how much better the NAD/Lsi combo will sound over what you had.
