Polk MM2104. Is this enough power?

I'm new here and let me say what a great forum. I am seriously considering a single 10" momo 2104 and am looking to drive it with a Memphis 16-MC500D which is 250 X 1 @ 4 ohms. I've been reading that these Momo's like more power so I'm concerned that 250 RMS is not enough. Any thoughts?

That will be enough power. The 2104 handles 300 watts and that Memphis is likely underrated by a bit so youd be close to 300.
Still, getting a slightly bigger amp in the future wouldnt be a bad idea either.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Many thanks. I'll be visiting this site often as I plan to build a custom box for the 10 and probably be changing my mind 100 times between now and then. Thanks again.

Just curious, but what is the rest of your setup? Whenever cash funds are more abundant, I'm planning on using a Memphis 16-MCA3004 to biamp my components, and I would also like to add a MM2104 in the future.

I am currently in the process of building my system. I have an Alpine 9856 HU and I just picked up a PPI 2120 for the rear door speakers which are Soundstream SPL 6.5 (2 Ohm). Next is the MM2104 and then some components up front. I'm not 100% sure about the Memphis amp. I've heard good things but I'm wondering if it's possible to get a 4 channel amp and run the fronts in 4 ohm stereo and the rear channel in 4 ohm bridged mono? This is all going into my 2000 4 Runner. Thanks.

Sounds like you just might have a decent system going when you get it all together.
As for taking a 4-channel amp and using the front two channels to power ocmponents, and then briding the rear two channels to power, say, a sub, yes, it's not only do-able but also a very common practice. And unless I'm way off bass, here, the impedance load on the front two channels doesn't have to be the same as the impedance presented to the rear channels. Meaning, you could power a 4-ohm set of components up front with the front channels, and then wire a DVC sub so as to present a 2-ohm load to the rear two channels bridged. But in that case, you have to make sure that the amp can handle a 2-ohm load while bridged.
But yes, no doubt about it, assuming you're presenting a 4-ohm load to everything, you should have absolutley no problems with that.George Grand wrote: »
