Will this work?

Wanted to know if these pieces will work together. I didn't plan to post but have no one else to ask and I do appreciate your input. I have the Yamaha RX V2600 & LSI 15's. As for the amp, I am looking at either the Adcom 555, Adcom 5500 or a Rotel 1080.
Thank you,
Cindy

When did you switch to the lsi15's. All of those amps would work, especially with the lsi's as brighter components are not a bad thing on them IMO (Rotel and Yamaha would probably be brighter). Although my opinion is probably skewed by some of the other electronics I have. Assuming the Yamaha has preouts. Welcome back!
It now appears that somebody else has got the disease. Your done. Your one of us sickos now!:D

Amps can be like wine, and folks have different tastes.
The Adcom GFA-555 is a bipolar amp, and they are very detailed with an up front sound quality. The GFA-5500 is a mosfet amp and to me they sound warmer. The bipolar design will run cooler than the mosfet design in case you have a tight spot to put it in. EDIT: That doesn't mean you can enclose the GFA-555 without ventilation, just that it runs cooler.
I've had GFA-555's, a GFA-5400 and a Rotel RB-1090. My pecking order would be the Rotel, then the GFA-5500. Then, there are Parasound amps. I never owned a Parasound but have demo'd one here at the house and liked it. I didn't find the Rotel RB-1090 bright at all, but never heard a 1080.Salk SoundScape 8's * Audio Research Reference 3 * Bottlehead Eros Phono * Park's Audio Budgie SUT * Krell KSA-250 * Harmonic Technology Pro 9+ * Signature Series Sonore Music Server w/Deux PS * Roon * Gustard R26 DAC / Singxer SU-6 DDC * Heavy Plinth Lenco L75 Idler Drive * AA MG-1 Linear Air Bearing Arm * AT33PTG/II & Denon 103R * Richard Gray 600S * NHT B-12d subs * GIK Acoustic Treatments * Sennheiser HD650 * -
I have a personal preference to the Adcom's. I'd go with the 5500 as it's a newer design. The 555 is a great amp as well, but unless you know the history of the particular amp (which is much older) in your situation go with the 5500. Because the 555's have been around so long and many many were sold, it could have seen some abuse because chances are it may have had several owners.
If the person selling said 555 is reputable and it sounds like a mint unit you might do just fine with it. I've seen some really 'effd up 555's, I wonder how people take care of their gear sometimes. Also make sure your Yamaha has pre-outs....I think I read in your other thread you said it did. You should be good to go.
Were you ever able to figure out your problem playing the Yamaha in 2-channel mode? Glad to see you didn't get scared off by the levels of testosterone here at CP. A seperate amp will make a nice difference powering the LSI's.

Mike, I returned the RTi's yesterday and will get the others by next week. After reading through the posts on this forum, I felt I would be happier with the LSi's. Seems most thought they are better for 2 channel music which is what I want. I will have to buy a used amp and am getting the LSi's new for about $750.
SCompRacer, I was told by another member here the same thing about the Adcom 5500 as far as the sound. I did a Google search on the Parasound but haven't had a lot of time to look at different sites yet. From the few I did see, I have a feeling they may be out of my price range.

The Parasounds do fetch more used (depending upon model). One thing about this hobby is if you buy used gear at a fair price, you can always resell later and recoup most and in some cases all of your money and move up. Either way, the Adcom/LSi is a solid combination that you will enjoy.Salk SoundScape 8's * Audio Research Reference 3 * Bottlehead Eros Phono * Park's Audio Budgie SUT * Krell KSA-250 * Harmonic Technology Pro 9+ * Signature Series Sonore Music Server w/Deux PS * Roon * Gustard R26 DAC / Singxer SU-6 DDC * Heavy Plinth Lenco L75 Idler Drive * AA MG-1 Linear Air Bearing Arm * AT33PTG/II & Denon 103R * Richard Gray 600S * NHT B-12d subs * GIK Acoustic Treatments * Sennheiser HD650 *

heiney9, I did figure out the 2 channel problem but am still not getting the sound I feel I should. I am going to unhook everything and start over while I am waiting on the new speakers. I won't be able to use them until I am able to get an amp though. I was told that I should get the amp first so as not to damage the speakers. I certainly don't want to screw them up because I would not be able to replace them. I always wanted the LSi's and sure could have saved myself a lot of hassle if I had gone with them in the beginning! I can't say I care much for looks but can live with it. I don't like the gloss on them but...

I am a bit envious because I hope to add a pair of Lsi-15's to my rig and at the great pirce you got them for $750 new is a good deal. Yes, sometimes it is better just to start over from the beginning when hooking things up. Good luck, keep us posted.

750 new is an awesome price. Are you sure that is not each? I know a manager of a bigger multibox store up here and he told me cost on them was 1500Cdn. Granted I think we pay more for electronics up here. Don't get me started on Harmon Kardon receiver prices up here.

Cindy,
What's your price range for the amp?Political Correctness'.........defined

Mike, It is $750 for the pair. I have a friend (he works in management at the store) and he is getting them on his discount. If it were each, there is no way I could get them. That's another reason I decided to go with these; he may be leaving for another job so I didn't want to wait.
F1nut, Not really sure; I know I don't have much left after buying the other pieces. On eBay, I've been seeing the Adcom's going for $350 at the low end & haven't paid much attention to the Rotel yet. I have also been looking at Audiogon. I'm hoping to get something for no more than $500 but that may not be possible. I know whoever I buy from will have to take credit cards or Paypal if I buy in the next week or so. Most sellers on eBay do but not sure about Audiogon. I have also looked at Outlaw Audio (was told about them by someone here) but would prefer to stay with a 2 channel. I guess it all will boil down to what comes along at the right price. I do know about craigslist but am a little unsure about buying something like this from that site. At least on eBay and Audiogon I have feedback to check. I know it's not a guarantee but it's better than nothing!

Early B - I have sent emails to both the sellers you listed. If they are still available, think it's going to matter which one I take? F1nut also gave me some links to check but one has been sold. I'm getting anxious now and would like to get an amp so that once the speakers get here I can get things hooked up.
Speaking of that, what type of cable will I need to hook these up? Again, open to any suggestions.
Thanks so much to you all.

Cindy, you may know this already. Try local searches by zip code at Audiogon and Ebay. At Audiogon, go to this page and type the first two digits of your zip code in the "by zipcode" field to bring up all the adds in your area.
Or use the advanced search at Ebay with the brand name of the amp your looking for. The word amp or amplifier will bring up too many pages to search through. The zip code field is about at the middle of the page with a "within ____ miles" field. Default is 200 miles. Lots of options to fine tune your search on this page. You might get lucky and find something local.Salk SoundScape 8's * Audio Research Reference 3 * Bottlehead Eros Phono * Park's Audio Budgie SUT * Krell KSA-250 * Harmonic Technology Pro 9+ * Signature Series Sonore Music Server w/Deux PS * Roon * Gustard R26 DAC / Singxer SU-6 DDC * Heavy Plinth Lenco L75 Idler Drive * AA MG-1 Linear Air Bearing Arm * AT33PTG/II & Denon 103R * Richard Gray 600S * NHT B-12d subs * GIK Acoustic Treatments * Sennheiser HD650 * -
Nice! You got a great deal on them. The LSi are wonderful speakers. I own the 9's and love them. I'm sure you'll enjoy their performance on a seperate amplifier.

I read a post earlier today about searching with a zip code on Audiogon so I do know about it. I heard from both the sellers that Early B mentioned; I just finished reaing reviews on both pieces. Based on what I read, I was thinking of this one - B&K ST 1400 series II power amp. Any thoughts? I know it's not the best out there but have to start somewhere.

B&K is a highly respected company. A few members here run B&K. From what I've heard, B&K is on the warm side.

I have a B&K ST 1400 mono amp. It's a very nice sounding amp. I'd describe it as a bit laid back in the highs. Mids are very warm sounding. Bass is very well controlled. Very beefy design. Should be able to handle the demands of the lsi15 although the power may be on the low side. They have the manuals and specs on the bkcomponents.com website if you need them.
B&K make very respectable equipment. I'd say it's a contrast to many Yamaha's receivers that I've heard (i.e. I haven't listened to your RX2600).
The only other thing I could suggest is to post a wtb classifieds.
