Im seeking opinions on this TV - This will be a very near purchase, I will most likely purchase the matching TV stand in the process...

Im very partial to Samsung and Hitachi -

I know a few people with Samsung's and heard no complaints. The color out of the box was terrible, but nothing that can't be fixed with a good calibration dvd.

Fry's had a Mitsu 52" DLP for under $1100 in last Friday's ad. No rebates to apply for either. Seemed like a pretty hard to beat deal.

I got Samsung's HL-R6168W a few days ago. It's their older version in 1080p. Slower colour wheel but still a very beautiful picture from both FIOS HD, HD-DVD and also from SD-DVD. I think you can get the 1080p version for similar price from authorized dealer if you shop around.

I have noticed that I spend more time now looking at the Samsung on my bedroom than my FP in a dedicated HT room. 1080p looks very nice and I think it's worth the extra money over 720p.

I may end up going with the Philips at Sams - I was very impressed with the natural, deep colors of it. Ive been thoroughly impressed with Samsung as well though.

Im trying to keep it under 2 grand including the stand...

Any other brands to check out?

Mits is ight, I like em...

Yea tigerdirect is pretty good, and I think that they are authorized dealers for all of their stuff. Don't take my word for it though.

Tiger direct is very solid. My school district buys a lot of computer equipment from them. I've bought several things from them as well.

Tiger direct seems to be pretty good, orderd computer parts from there before. I just linked it to there for picture sake, im pretty sure you might be able to find it else where for near the same price.

good luck, let us know what you decide on. Im also lookin for a TV.

I'd also look into LCD RPTVs and DILAs. Might as well figure which type of technology looks best to you. Also read up on avsforum.com. Lots and lots and lots of good info there.

I have a Samsung 1080i 50" set. The picture is great and I have had no problems with this set. The first one Circuit City sent, the color went bad. They gave me a new one w/ no questions asked and I have had no problems with the new set. It's over 1 year old now. Buy the warrenty. The bulb only lasts around 2000 hours and costs around 400 installed.
I am still on my first bulb.

Hey Sid, you can build a stand that will look as good as anything you could buy and probably a lot sturdier too. Go for it....:)

I used to sell this TV when I worked at Circuit City. It has a slick stand with touch sensative buttons (though sometimes they didn't seem to be very responsive. Then again it was a floor model) and the picture is quite nice.

I'd recommend going to a local retailer like Frys, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc... whatever is close and just look at the TVs. I can't tell you how many times I've had people tell me tv X has the best picture they've ever seen while others would say tv Y or tv Z had the best picture. You just need to see it in action.
    Is that a reputable store?
They've been around for a while but their Reseller ratings seem a bit down.

Nice. The best looking rear-projection LCD/DLP I've seen was Sony's 70" XBR LCD. It was $6,999.99 when Circuit City first got it but I still haven't seen a rear-projection TV with a better picture (not even Hitachi's 70"). No one ever bought it and they eventually stopped selling it.

If i had any room left in my apartment i would have gotten a bigger tv. The 62" is already to big as it is for my livingroom but who cares im single and rather have the biggest tv i can possibly fit into me apartment.

I've heard of some people having problems with the Samsung TVs'. But then again, they are very few. If you could, I would go in person and see it for yourself. Heck, even bring in one of your favorite DVD's and try it out. If you like it, then buy it :).
