I am looking for a used 5-channel amp for my livingroom.
I found a Carver AV405 on e-bay that has enough power.
Is there anyone on here who knows anything about this unit or has an opinion on Carver products?

The 705 is a better choice. What speakers are
you running? What other gear?Carver is a good low budget starter
amp and most are better than whats in your standard AVR.

The system is a budget system. I have a Yamaha RX-V650, Denon 2900 DVD,
Polk Monitor 40,s main, 30's rear & CS-1 center. So would the quality of the Carver fall in line with the rest of my system?

The 405 might be a tad underpowered for your speakers.
Not familiar with your yammy AVR,whats it putting out into
all 5-channels?My first thought is for you to find a Carver 3-
channel amp with 200 watts up for the front and center and let your AVR take care of the surrounds. The three front speakers are the ones takeing
up the juice from your amp.and you want them all to have roughly the same power so you have a seemless sound.
Let me correct myself, the 405 is fine for now and the speakers you are useing, but given the low price
of used carver amps, and the possibility of future speaker upgrades,go with a 705.

I just bought a Carver av-405 and I am very happy with it. The 405 will power your speakers very well; Great amp for the money.
