Burn in for LSi 7s

Hey guys,
I just purchaseds a pair of LSi 7s from audiogon and I'm curious to how much burn in time you guys have noticed is needed for the mid-woofer to calm down? Fresh out of the package (I'm fairly sure there's not a lot of time put on these, no feet were placed on their bottoms and other telltale signs of little use) I noticed the Vifa XT sounded wonderful, but the mid-woofer is a bit sloppy. Well, rather there seems to be a bump of about 3 decibels at around 150hz to 200hz that then drops to a flatter response for the rest (minus a minor dip around 2.3k - 2.5k that I attribute to the crossover). There is also indication of a bit of boom in the bass as well.

FYI, until my new amp comes in, I'm driving it with a stock t-amp at around 9-10 watts coming straight from a sony cd-player(can't remember model number off the top of my head). The interconnects are from radioshack (I know, I know) and the speaker wire is 16 gauge, none of which runs by power lines or associated and is connected to the lsi's by bare wire.

Is this a matter of more burn in time needed(I've had them on an 80 - 20k sine sweep for about 5 hours, curteousy of WinISD)? Granted, the polks are about 6 inches from the wall, but due to my setup there is not much wiggle room. Ideally, how much breathing room would you give them?

Are you taking a near-field measurement or are you measuring from the listening position? Could the bump be part of your room curve?

I felt like my 7's sounded better after breakin. Most will recommend somewhere between 50-100 hours before they are fully broken in.

Most likely, the limited power from the t-amp is the reason they don't sound their best. I beleive there is an inherent spike between 500-800(can't remember the exact frequency) due to the cabinet.

Enjoy your 7's. I've enjoyed mine for quite some time.

Big difference after about 75 to 100 hours at reasonable volumes.

The monitors are placed near-field to me 2' - 3' away. I havn't experienced this bump with other monitors I listened to in that spot.

they need to break in, and they will most likely smoke that amp, more time and a better amp will fix the sound.
    Dodd - Battery Preamp
Monarchy Audio SE100 Delux - mono power amps
    Sony DVP-NS999ES - SACD player
    ADS 1230 - Polk SDA 2B
DIY Stereo Subwoofer towers w/(4) 12 drivers each
    Crown K1 - Subwoofer amp
    Outlaw ICBM - crossover
    Beringher BFD - sub eq

Where is the remote? Where is the $%#$% remote!

Ed Zachry, mechanical break in (woofer spider / vc etc) can take 50-100 hours in most cases. Electrical break in (caps especially) can still undergo subtle changes upwards of 800 hours of use in a low-voltage setting like a speaker crossover.

Hmm, thanks. I'll give an assessment in about a week or so then of how they're doing.
