Digital vs Analog SPL

Hey Guys,

I know for calibration purposes everyone says use the analog one.

What is the reason for this? I believe digital is 10 dollars more, but besides that is there another reason?

Has there been test that compared the accuracy between the two? Or is it only because of price?

Just wondering

I would think it might be easier to measure peaks with a digital one but for just in general I like the analog ones. Something about watching the needle move is almost more interesting than seeing digits change on a display.

Probably more of a preference thing but I'm not quite sure.

It really doesn't matter, since most use the C-weighted/slow setting on the analog meter. I think that it is a personal preference, and audio has always seemed to favor analog meters over bars and digits on most of the higher end gear.

Why do 90% of speedometers/tachometers use analog? Because its preferred..........

It is the measurement circuitry that determines the accuracy of the instrument and that is well before the meter circuit that displays the results.
That being said, the digital display gives you more options for things like peak hold and such and eliminates "parallax" errors. Parallax errors are errrors caused by viewing an analog display at an angle and misreading the position of the needle.

You are correct. If they made a meter with a even bigger arrow thing to move around we men would buy that one.
