Very happy with my new amp

Had some good listening time with the Carver I bought from MSkeezer. This is my first seperate amp and all I can say is that the amp is a nice addition to my system. I'm using the Carver to power the fronts and center, the HK powers the rear surrounds. First impressions: sound stage has become wider and imaging is improved, movie dialogue is clearer, and mid/lows are more powerful yet controlled.
Overall, my R30's sound like they doubled in size.
The HK is no slouch on its own, but a seperate amp is a great step-up.

Thanks, I noticed a big difference even while using my current cheap RCA interconnects.
Going to pick up some cables soon.Receiver: harmankardon AVR235

Hey Mike,
Congrats on your new gear addition. I think your amp is 5 channel .right? The amp is powering your fronts and centre. If the remaining 2 channels on the amp are not used, did you think of bi-amping the FL and FR?
I have 5 channel B&K amp and it sounds awesome bi-amped for my FL/FR. My centre is powered straight from the amp.
After installing UltaLink cables in my system the sound is very good. The mid range is a lot clearer and the bass is tighter and more forward. These are not by any means best cables, but for the $$ it will give you a very nice sound from your new amp IMO.
Enjoy your new toy.

Yes, the Carver is a 5ch amp. However, the rears are rated at 50w/ch whereas the fronts are rated at 100w/ch, center 110w.
A few questions: My R30's don't have dual binding posts to biwire, just a single speaker wire connection. Could I try to run an extra set of speaker wires from the rear out on the amp to the same posts on the R30s (connect the rear speaker wire to the fronts)? Also what about pre-outs for the fronts? They are already used. How would I get the rear signal to match the fronts?
Here are some pics of the amp:

I'm still learning..:D
Thanks

You need 5 way binding posts to bi-amp/bi-wire. Whatever you do don’t connect your rear channels on the amp to you front speakers. You will fry your speakers.Mike682 wrote:How would I get the rear signal to match the fronts?
Don't know what you mean. If the amp's rear channels are rated at 50w that is all you get.
Nice pics. Very clean amp.

I do have 5way binding posts on the 30's, but not a pair for biwiring
As for the rear signal, I meant how do you get the unused rear channels on the amp to amplify front channels' signal coming from the receiver? I already used the front pre-outs on the receiver to the amp.Receiver: harmankardon AVR235
