Connecting the Sub to the L&R Audio out on DVD,
Hi Guys,
i have connected the Sub to the Left and Right Audio Out on the DVD player, it sounds fair but the the volume is quite high and its only on 10% right now, are there any disadvantages to connecting the sub this way, will i breack or burn something or is this okay. Are the other connection methods i can use except for using the sub out from the reciever, just by the way my receiver does not have pre outs.
My 2.1 set up:
Onkyo 501E
Sub PSW10(will upgrade to PSW505 soon)
LEFT&RIGHT B&W DM602 S3(to replaced by Rti8 soon)

The biggest problem I can think of is that calibration is going to be a nightmare. Since you aren't going through any form of a preamp, your sub will always play the same level regardless of what the rest of your speakers are doing.
I would recomend the "Polk method" for your sub. Run the left and right speaker level signal to the sub, then from your sub to the front left and right. Set the AVR to Large for fronts and None for sub.

I agree with Labrat. I ran my sub in this configuration for years. In fact, I might even to revert to this method.
I noticed that you are going to get rid of your B&Ws and get some Polk. I am just wondering what it is that you prefer about the Polk? I currently have all Polk and am in the process of upgrading... deciding whether to go Polk or B&W... -
Hi Daknie
I love the B&W's especially the 602's that i have currently, very clean presentation when you have the power to do so. To really appreciate B&W quality you need serious power to make them really shine, but this is just in my opinion, which is the reason i like polk, they dont need a lot of power to shine and they can go loud, very loud. The B&W is a warmer more laid back speaker, so if you want loud dont do B&W unless you buy the 604 in this series and if you have the power, they a power hungry. If you are going to use the B&W 602 S3 for a small ish room about 3meters by 4meters then it will be perfect. i would not buy the B&W DM603 S3 it isnt that different from the 602 it just goes a little depper than the 602 again i want to empasis a little, its not a difference worth the extra $$$, but the 604 is deffinately louder and bigger, but the draw back again is that you need floods of power to take advantage of the speaker, more like a power amp per speaker, so if your budget allows it then go for it, you wont be dissapointed.(((((STEREO)))))
