And this time it's not my fault. This past week my 12 year old satellite receiver upstairs went bad and had to be replaced. I 'asked' the wife what she wanted me to do and she said I want it replaced, okay. So when I call Directv to see about having it replaced D* suggested going with the new 5LNB dish with the new H20 HD receiver so I can now get all my locals in HD along with my HD National channels. Boy what a mistake that was, nothing upstairs in my wifes living room has worked right yet. I'm not sure who to be pissed at, D* techinal support or the installers. The installers are claiming it's the H20's faulty software and Tech support is claiming it's the install. Honestly, I couldn't give a rats **** less who's fault it is just as long as someone gets this crap fixed before my wife goes off on me. I should have just installed the crap myself, I installed the last two system on my house and never had a problem one.

Nah, they probably wouldn't beleive the Dish Network line.
Better to tell them you got a mailer from Comcast for 1/2 off for a year if you switch over.
I used to get them all the time. I think Comcast has people who just drive around looking for homes with Dishes on them, and drop a flyer in the mail box.
They aren't half off, but some ridiculously low rate for a year including HBO.
I know when I used to tell my co-workers who already had Comcast the prices I was being offerred they would about **** based on what they were paying.

Bummer on the new install. What is the problem. Is it the HD video, audio, all of the above?

You guys kill me sometimes, when a man is down in the dirt you make sure you kick just a little more in one's face.:D After trouble shooting last night I do beleive it's the H20. I'm calling Directv today and telling them when they come out Saturday morning to take a look at it they better bring a new H20 or they are going to take all the crap back with them.

I feel your pain grim. I switched from Dishnetwork to Directv a year ago and had nothing but trouble. It was so bad, that if we were watching tv in the family room, and turned on the light in the adjacent bathroom, we lost the signal. They came out to fix it 3 times and each time the fix lasted for maybe 2 weeks, then back to the same. I said eff'em and switched to Charter Digital cable and its been great. I say eff Directv.

Yeah, I just got off the phone with Directv and told them I beleive I narrowed the problem down to being the receiver and asked them if the installer was going to be bring out a replacement receiver just in case it was bad. D* tech support which gets a big F-you in my book said they had to wait for the installer to confirm it was the receiver before sending out a new one, which is of course another 1-3 business days. Why not use they're head for something other than a hat rack and send the installer out with replacement receiver to keep their customers happy. I'll give them till Saturday and if this crap is not resolved, D* is going to get all their S!@# back.

The H20 box is a "POS" in my opinion. Have you hit the reset button under the lid covering the card? I struggled with my H20 and after about the 3rd complete reset the box settled in.

I don't have the 5LNB dish yet but will say the picture quality is good but the remote and menu system just plain sucks IMHO.

I have dish network and have had to adjust the dish once in about 4 years. I bought all my equipment outright so I could subscribe to the bottom channel plan without a contract. The box took a crap about 6 months ago and they sold me a refurb for $35.00 inc. shipping.
I thought that was a pretty good deal to get a replacement box for $35.00. they had to get my old one back as part of the deal but who cares?

I don't know much about direct tv or their newest and greatest technology.

When you talk to a Direct TV guy, They are in Idaho or Somewhere out in the boondocks. The installers are just independent contractors from some small company. Direct TV doesn't even know what boxes get to your house until the contractor tells them what he had in stock.

I have DTV and really like it BUT their networking leaves a lot to be desired.
