Bought it at Kmart today.

Brought it home.

Fired up the AVR, made sure speaker levels were set correctly.

Subwoofer crossover checked.

Put in the movie, warned The Crew to brace for shock.

Got to the part in the movie where Vin Diesel is at the stoplight in his black charger.

Cranked up the amp. No, I mean CRANKED up the amp. We've had it ramped up before, but this time: Take no prisoners. Gag the safeties.
Perform some Non (hopefully) - destructive-testing.

Verdict:

O H M Y G A W D !!!

My little CS2 and M40's ? Oh yeah, them puppies can take a licking and keep on ticking. And, yes, my lil' Athena AS-P4000 subbie took it like a trooper. The Monitor 30's ? Well, .... "Hey, watch out for that train !!!'. The R30's did their duty when called upon.
And the ol' Onkyo TX-SR503 got mildly warm, not hot. "Please, sir, may I have another ?".

My speakers are definitely no longer green.

One of these days, I'll upgrade. Will eventually look for something that'll satisfy the musical needs,too, but in the meantime: for <$700 you can get something that'll bring a smile to your face, and ringing to your ears.

I got that same feeling from the LotR Extended Box set when I fired them up... just grinned from ear to ear, impressed with the amazing sound. So much better than the HTiB that I had looked at before for 2K from Polk. Oh ya. Bring it baby!

had a black Chevelle SS that ran our version of the local cruise strip.

It had traction bars. It had a need for traction bars. It was a beast.
It was an awesome beast.

The guy who drove it, Joe Defada, was somewhat of a beast.
He was somewhat of an awesome stupid beast.

He couldn't get the 45 degrees of front end lift that Vin Diesel got out of that Charger.
Nah, he'd get about half of that, about 20 degrees of lift.

Saw him running the strip once, with lots of stop lights. Every light equalled an opportunity for launch, and he wasn't one to waste opportunities. So, of course, he got pulled over by the cops and got tickets for open headers, improper lane changes, you-name-it-he-got-it.

So what's he do as the cop is getting back in his car ? Yep. 20 degree launch, couple of pounds of smoked slicks on the asphalt, and traction bars singing their song. That's why I said he was somewhat of an awesome stupid beast. Took him a while to get his car out of impound.

Thought of Joe Defada and his Chevelle as I watched Vin Diesel and his Charger. Both were about equally loud . And I got a rush out of both of them.

BTW, I finally was able to coax the sound all the way out of the CS2. SOB thought he was going to hide a little bit towards the back of the box until I blasted him out.

Haha. Sounds like I would've loved to take a ride with Mr. Defada. Trips down memory lane are awesome, even when you only have the memories just 18 years can make.

You need to try 2 Fast 2 Furious. The race scene near the opening has some real good audio and video. No Vin Diesel, but it isn't a bad movie. They also use some modern pseudo rap music in the movie, but it works with the movie and doesn't sound too bad on the speakers either.

Actually Fast and the Furious and 2 Fast 2 Furious both had something of a cult following.
It wasn't because the race scenes were killer, or the cars awe inspiring. It was because they tapped into the inner city DIY car mod psyche.
There is a cool scene in 2 Fast 2 Furious where they send out a whole bunch of tricked out cars to confuse the police. What is cool about the scene is it is real people. They placed an add in the paper for anyone with a tricked out car who wanted to be in a movie scene to come down, and hundreds showed up.
I think it is a fascinating sub culture, with people buying good little cars and tweaking and customizing them.
Kinda like what is done with audio equipment by many on this forum.

Properly tweaked, the factory four link suspension on the rear of a Chevelle works exceptionally well. Guys in the old days would install ladder bars from the rear diff to the frame which added another pivot point that limited/bound up the stock rear suspension travel.

That tweak is to install Polyurethane bushings (or solid aluminum bushings) in boxed control arms and lower the upper four link bar mounts on the chassis. Or use an aftermarket bracket that raises the upper bar mount position on the rear diff. This mod sometimes required shortening the upper bars to get the pinion angle right, or one could purchase adjustable bars if they have no faith in their heli-arc skills.

Install a pair of adjustable drag shocks on the rear set to 25/75 or 50/50, 90/10 shocks on the front, at least one air bag with 10-20 pounds of air pressure in the right rear spring and you'll pitch rotate and launch straight.

the Steve McQueen movie, "Bullit" (sp?).

Used to be an orange 57 Chevy that ran around here in the late 60's. Was called the "Orange Pollock". Actually googled that to see if there was anything out there on the "Orange Pollock" but came up blank (except for some vases). Don't know what he had under the hood, but it would rattle our house windows when it ran down Lindbergh, a mile and a half away. Another beast.

Times were definitely different back then. Try the open header route nowadays, and the cops will be you like ducks on a a junebug. Plus, our little town is now "Internationally accredited" which means, among other things, remote cameras at all major intersections. Had the opportunity to visit our local police headquarters last year <ahem> and they have a "big board" that reminded me of the "Big Board" from Dr. Strangelove.

This thread is okay, because.....uhm......you can actually put Polk speakers in cars !! (covering my rear here).
