Anyone play World of Warcraft?

I'm what you might call an obsessive game player. Usually there's only one game that I play, and I play it to death. At first it was Unreal. Then Unreal Tournament. Then Diablo II. And now World of Warcraft. It is the only game I have been playing for the last year and a half.
I like RPG's and FPS games. WoW is sort of in between. It's 3D, but it's not first person. It's an RPG, but there's a lot of real-time action as well. And if you join one of the PvP realms (player vs player), you are at risk of being attacked by enemy players at any time.
Blizzard puts out some high quality games, and WoW is probably their best one yet. It is very well-balanced, IMO. Each character class has strengths/weaknesses that make each one viable in almost any situation. And every class has several viable builds...there's no single "right" way to build your character. There is a lot of group play as well. Some parts of the game cannot be done solo. Especially on the PvP realms, in some places it's impossible to complete a quest unless you form a group for protection from enemy players. Running around by yourself is an open invitation to get ganked.
I guess the only downside to the game is that you have to pay a monthly fee to play it. About $14. The upside is that they continually add new content to the game, since the subscription fees keep the developers going.

i currently play on Dark Iron server. Being a veteran EQ, Horizons, DAoC, EQ2 (and even a brief stint with Shadowbane) player I didnt want to get involved with another mmorpg. They were getting lamer and lamer and i didnt want to invest the time. WoW is by far the best overall mmorpg i've played, but i'm sure arguments can be made to the contrary. More accurately, its the best mmorpg for me. Lots of random item drops, you can solo all you want. Group only when you feel like and it and most of the raids and things dont seem to make 20+ hours heh.
I was playing it pretty hardcore until i finally bought Elder Scrolls IV, now i cant stop playing it, despite my previous addiction to WoW Elder Scrolls is hands down the best RPG game i've ever played, incredibly immersive and super fun

Get out while you still can!
I sold my account for a very large chunk of change around November of last year. I had the full tier 2 set on my Shaman, as well as a level 60 Mage twink that had some tier 2. I don't miss the game, though. Too much work. -
I just got it last month and I've got a Lvl 24 Human Warrior on the Firetree server.

I agree on the "too much work" comment. Thats usually why i stop playing whatever mmorpg i happen to into, once it becomes work. Which is why i rarely make it to whatever the level cap is on most of the mmorpgs i play. They are really fun until it takes an inhuman amount of effort and time i'd rather spend elsewhere to continue playing the game "well". And since i'm an ultra-competitive perfectionist, these games are usually bad news for me

Yeah, the guild I was in was doing server firsts on every piece of content across the board, so it totally became a job. We had set raiding schedules and the guild raided daily. You didn't have to be there every day, but damn near -- or you got cut. It became like work without the paycheck.
Plus, it cost tons of in game currency and resources when you're beating content not many people have before, which take more time since you have to 'farm'.
Right when I finally quit we were clearing all of MC, BWL, and Onyxia in one night. It was fun doing it the first couple of times, but after that....hated it. -
I hope I never get to that point. Hell, my guild is getting ticked because I havent been on much for the last week... like what the hell I just turned 19! (legal age) and booze/strippers take precedence over a videogame! I guess they think that WoW should be my priority.

WoW's okay, I got sick of it real quick but, didn't even make it to Lv 60 I'll go back someday i suppose, but not in the near future.Blizzard puts out some high quality games, and WoW is probably their best one yet.
I have to disagree... what about StarCraft? (in Comic Book Guy voice) "best... game... ever." -
55 Undead Priest on Kil'Jaeden. My brother and a couple friends are all 60's on Daggerspine. I've been out since October but I'm just now getting lured back into it. It's a great game if you have the time to do things like 8+ hour raids so you can actually get ahead in the game, but other than that you hit a point where it turns to solo farming, general ganking/protecting and getting hk's.

nah i still play Asheron's Call, got a lvl 275 there, higest lvl on server only like 20 of us that lvl

Just in case you missed it the first time...
South Park - 1008 - Make Love, Not Warcraft
By the way, if you have some free time at work and some headphones, you should check this site out. I believe it has every south park episode ever made in its entirety. The quality isn't too good, but hey, if your looking for quality, buy the damn dvd.
I'll try to get a little more on topic here... Do they still charge that $12(around this price) monthly fee for online? I think that is utterly ridiculous to pay that much money to play one game online. But of course thats just me....AVR: H/K AVR240

I quit about 2 months ago. I played it since it came out.
Started on Warsong then moved to Galithos then moved to Kirin Tor where my chars still are.
I sill have my account.
Before BC came out I had 5 lvl 60's and 3 lvl 30's.
After BC came out I took all 5 60's to 70, did some raiding and then my entire server pretty much blew up.
Since I quitting I have loved life, I never realized how frustrating it was playing with 13 year old kids all the time with absolutely no social skills (destructive).
I don’t think I’m going back and I am not having as much luck selling as I did in UO, EQ, DAOC, etcc
Bliz shuts down my auctions and such.Testing

My old guild that Ive been in for 8ish years from DAOC is waiting for warhammer.
Ya, I started on UO to! I actually beta 1 tested it! I played it for a good 5+ years on and off. I eventually sold my 3 accounts for $1000 on ebay. I played EQ for the first year it was out up to the first upgrade. I played a magician and got the pull "Hate" set and sold that account for $1000. I moved to DAOC, played it for a year and then sold that account for $1000
I then moved to Never Winter Nights were I built and ran my own persistent world for about 4 years. We had 3 mirrors of the server around the country (one was a server in my house). I actually had well over 100000 people play that module. I absolutely loved doing that but all that code took a lot of time. I took in a total of $4000+ donation dollars on that mod to put up a pretty kick arss server for it and help pay for a LOT of bandwidth.
Then moved to Wow. wow is a great game but its player base is by far the worst of any game I have ever played. I swear, these companies need to REQUIRE that you be 18 to play. Kids in school shouldn’t be playing those games.Testing
