Somewhere on the forum, someone had written that one should check out Craigslist.com when in the market for used gear. I can't find that thread again, but:

Whoever you are...THANK YOU for telling us about this opportunity.

I just picked up a pair of RT600i's, one CS400i and a pair of fx500i's for a grand total of $450! I had to spend a day return trip to pick up, but still....

The speakers were in pristine condition and sold due to moving across the country.

So, thank you thank you, my fellow polkie!

To others, I can definately second this option for used Polks.

I looked at criagslist for my area (mobile,al) and they were advertising a free $500 Best But gift card for filling out some form. They first asked for my zip which I did not enter. I closed the window. Does anybody know if this is for real or some scam? I would like a free $500 GC even if it is for BB.

Craigslist can be good and bad. There are scams in every category.

Common Polk Audio scams are current models at above market prices (bought at sale price elsewhere and have NO warranty), older models at unbelievable low prices, and the old "send payment then I will ship".

    Check your head before responding.

I've puchased alot of gear off craigslist. So far no bad experiences. I like being able to see and demo equipment before buying.

Craigslist is amazing. I have bought RT800s for $100, f/x500i for $250, CS250 for $10, CS350 for $140, Harmon/Kardon amp for free, Yamaha 7.1 140wpc receiver for $100. All of them in great condition. However, you can be scammed on CL, like any other website. If you are buying something make sure you test it before you buy it, and that it is up to your specs. But have at, people tend to be pretty cool, so be cool back.

Well, I have to re-cant my jubilation for Craigslist, at least for now.

I traveled 407 miles one way, only to find that the little f****r had sold the polk speakers only an hour earlier to someone that had come by his yard sale.

Having been on the phone with him regularly - even on the road, giving him my ETA - he still sold them. Believe it or not, but at a lower price, too, than what we had agreed?????

I can tell you that the 407 miles back home were loooooong, very long. Not to mention the gas money.

Better luck next time. If there is a next time.

I was selling some excess gear on craigslist and accidentily sold a reciever I had promised to a gentleman driving from a town over an hour away from me. I had so many calls I just got mixed up. Anyway when he arrived I explained what happened and offered him a better reciever at a lesser price. That sucked becuse it was a favorite of mine and I had no intention of selling it. Still it was my own stupidity that caused the situation and it was the right thing to do.

I have had similar experiences but never that far. But I snagged SDA SRS, SDA CRS+, Monitor 10, SDA 2 and many others at one time or other. All for great deals
