How many of you still follow them/appreciate them? I posted a thread a great while back asking what'd you give to play with your fav. band, I meant to follow it up, but I waited for more details...

Anyhoo...

The Contemporary Youth Orchestra (based in Cleveland) is playing with Styx at Blossom. It's pretty exciting, we've had rehearsals with James Young so far, and reps from House of Blues, HD TV, and others looked on. The concert is on May 25th, but no worries, if you miss it, it'll be on TV sometime in December :D

Rock the Orchestra!

About two years ago I went to one of those multi-group all day concerts at The Gorge Ampitheater in WA. Styx closed the show and I was surprised how much energy they could still muster.

I had no idea Styx was still up and at it, they were prime when I was in HS 74-78 and listened to them extensively. Good for them and congrats on getting the youth involved. I'll definitely watch for the TV broadcast! :D

I saw them at a Novell convention (BrainShare) about 3 years ago in Salt Lake City. They were really good and put on a great show. They played mostly their old songs (all of which I knew) and just a couple of their new ones (none of which I had ever heard).

All in all - well worth seeing if you get the chance and enjoyed their music. Details are getting fuzzy now, but I remember it sounding almost like a high energy, big budget cover band rather than the original styx from the recordings that I have. (I assume it was the vocals that were different, but I really cant remember now) either way - they put on a good show.

BTW - its awesome you are getting a chance to play with them. Enjoy it - any chance they will be recording it?

I like Styx. Lady and Come Sail Away are a couple of my favorites. Their singer sounds a little fruity sometimes, but they rock.

Yeah, I beleive it's going to be on a national label by October, otherwise the recording company forfeits their contract.

Is that Dennis DeYoung maybe? He won't be there, they kicked him out of the group. heh, it's kinda funny hearing about the group politics.

Yeah it's really exciting for us. We get "I am the Walrus" tomorrow, I'll keep you guys updated. :)

It was too funny when they were talking about the group politics on VH1's "Behind The Music - Styx". Dennis DeYoung is on tour by himself nowadays.

    Good for you Mjr.

I still have some of their albums on vinyl. They had quite a fan base in the Chicago area when they played in local clubs and schools, before they hit the big time. Back in the days when my wife to be and I partied till dawn. Lots of great memories.

    It's tomorrow.
It's amazing, we had our full rehearsal at blossom today, lights, sound and everything today. It had their veteran sound mixer (for 30 years) in tears because it was such a powerful vibe. If you can go, go! It will easily be the event to be at. I'll have pictures later.

    Rock on!

Yea, they played at our prom back in 72, I think they were called TW-4 back then, anyway, glad you got a chance to do some tunes with them.

I saw the Roboto concert sometime in the eightees, the night was blur for alot of reasons, but I do remember enjoying the show.

I saw them here on Ft. Huachuca (hard to believe huh?) about 4 yrs ago; it was fantastic--except for the "I'm trying sound like Dennis Deyoung" singer they had. Luckily, 90% of what they played were Tommy Shaw lead vocal songs...

It was a great evening for an outdoor concert, about 73 degrees, no wind. My wife & I had a blast.

I saw them in Atlantic City last year. They still put on a great show. The fans were alittle strange but in all a good show.

"I'm at a loss for words to tell you how much we enjoyed last night with CYO and the chorus. Thank goodness we filmed it, and in High Definition no less! It's going to take a while for us to get in and edit it with the producer and director (we already had a lot to do this year) but we'll get to it as quickly as time allows.

The orchestra and chorus kicked butt from the git go. The sound, lighting, video crews were fantastic. They got what we were doing and they caprtured it. We already saw the live cut and heard the front of house mix with it. That alone would be a great show but we want to go make it even better so we'll spend time with it and make it the best we can.

Thanks to everyone in Cleveland who participated last night. We're still buzzing today here in Long Island, and though we play tonight at Jones Beach with Foreigner, it's hard to stop thinking about last night with CYO et al...

Here's to music education! If ever there was a better case for it, I haven't seen it."

Saw them back in '77 at an old opera house in Buffalo, NY just moments before they exploded into a full-on arena band. Still to this day one of my favorite shows, they were just awesome!

How many of the original band are still playing? I think there is some bad blood among some of them. Lawsuits and all that good stuff!:(
