If you had $1600, what Redbook CD Player would you buy? (new, street price)

Do I have to spend $1600?
I might get the Shanling CDP which I believe sells for around $1500.
Reviews are lukewarm and folks say it isn't worth the price but boy does it look amazing!!! It sure is a great conversation, show-off piece.

Ditto on the Shanling. It could sound no better than my POS DVD player, but it looks totally rad.

That bad huh??!
tryrrthg - I second Rega. They look quite ugly (cheap) but they sound amazing. The Rega Apollo at $1K is a steal (IMHO)Distant Dream - A New Beginning

Might be worth it to go used and get the A5- I know the question was new/street, but the A5 is a whole different league- tube output stage, uber low jitter, 192khz vs 96khz sampling...
Having heard them both, the A5 is worth it.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19
