In response to overwhelming demand, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release attractively priced individual two-disc releases of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Each release includes the 2004 digitally remastered version of the movie, as well as the original theatrical edition of the film. That means you'll be able to enjoy Star Wars as it first appeared in 1977, Empire in 1980, and Jedi in 1983.

I never thought it would actually happen.

    It's george's cash cow. It needs to be milked from time to time in order to keep the lucasfilm ranch operating.

    The question is, how many versions will there be?

    * one with Leia welding
    * one without Leia welding
    * a definitive re-release
    * botched THX release
    * wrong DVD in a multi-disc package

    There is room for more "collector's item". :rolleyes:

    I'll be in line for this as I'm hopelessly addicted to Star Wars.

    I refuse to plop anymore money into George's cashcow.

    On the other hand, if they bring out a "Super-Ultra-Mega Deluxe Edition" of the Star-Wars Trilogy Special Edition minus the stupid Greedo scene and where Chewy finally gets his damn medal, well then I might re-consider.

    2.0 surround?
    H/K Signature 2.1+235
    Jungson MagicBoat II
    Revel Performa M-20
    Velodyne cht-10 sub
    Rega P1 Turntable

    I read some where that the re-released versions that came out in the late 90's and the DVD box set that came out in 04 was the way that Lucas wanted to make the films in the 70's and 80's but couldn't due to budget or they just weren't able to do some of the effects back in the 70's and 80's. so why would you want a sub-par version of the film when you can already get it the way that the maker wanted to make it the first place now that doesn't make any sence to me but I guess it like some of you alreay said its just a cash cow, but I don't think that I'll have any part in this one
